Pullstart 63,139 #26 Posted October 16, 2020 @953 nut @WHX24 HELP!! I have read stuff, but I think my eyes are crossing. The generator light is on, and I’m not seeing a charge. When I poke and prod with my meter, the numbers jump around a million times a second. I have the reg. Cover off, cleaned the points in there and everything LOOKS ok... but I don’t know what I’m looking for. The meter is not helping much as mentioned... pfrederi 17,949 #28 Posted October 16, 2020 (edited) Firstly many digital meter get confused by the rapid switching going on in an old style regulator. Try to use an analog one or a different digital. Light on means no charge. Ground the F terminal of the generator while running. Engine should labor a bit, light should go off and if your meter is reading voltage should go up to about 14. If engine labors but no increase in voltage regulator is bad.
