nylyon-(Admin) 7,268 #1 Posted May 16, 2018 Last night we had a violent storm pass through the area. It spawned a couple of tornado's (EF2 in Kent, NY and an EF1 in Patterson, NY) but there's investigation into whether or not there's been more. Here in my neighborhood there's a little property damage, one neighbor roof got partially ripped off, but elsewhere in town and the neighboring towns there's very significant damage. Here at my house, nothing more than a few leaves on the deck, and some branches on the grass. I know I'll miss some, but I hope that @Rob R @stevebo @fireman @Ken B @Uncle BO @Ed Stoller and anyone I missed are all okay. 6
SPINJIM 1,981 #2 Posted May 17, 2018 Down here in PA, a young couple's home was demolished by an uprooted tree, while they were away on their honeymoon. A mile from me, a house was hit by lightning, and burned to the ground. We've had so much rain and early heat, I feel like I'm living in the tropics. Trees and weeds are growing like crazy this year. My granddaughter is getting married this Saturday, and the forecast is for heavy rain and thunderstorms. Strange weather. Jim
ztnoo 2,298 #3 Posted May 17, 2018 (edited) I got a message yesterday from an amplifier, tube audio specialist who has worked on audio gear for me who lives in New Milford, CT........the home of one of our mods, I believe. @stevebo??? Here's his statement: "WEATHER UPDATE: A tornado blew through here about 4:42 this afternoon. There is widespread damage across much of Connecticut. The high school down the road lost part of its roof. We are fine here, but there is no power, no internet and no phone service. Lines are down *everywhere*. About every 50' there is a tree down across power lines. This is not the sort of outage that will be fixed in a few days. Could be a month, based on past experience. We are on generator power and will continue to work on amplifiers as usual. I'm using limited cellular data to post right now." stratostar250 919 #6 Posted May 17, 2018 It was very bad here. My family and I are safe, no damages other than I had quite a large tree land across my driveway, but thankfully didn't hit any power lines. I've heard that we may be without power for the next 5 to 7 days. There are many trees down and many broken telephone poles. I guess we will see how long it takes! All is well, though.

19richie66 17,500 #11 Posted May 17, 2018 Glad you guys are ok. Crazy weather down here too. Rains, pours, quits, rains, pours, quits. Got pretty windy yesterday and I believe there were a couple smaller tornadoes off the east coast. More rain today and all week as a matter of fact and then “Hurricane Season” ...... just what we need. Be safe people👍
AMC RULES 37,127 #12 Posted May 18, 2018 (edited) A few of the views here... from my office window this week. Can you say, Trees? Or, the damage they sustained, has been the word of the week here, this week. So, for now, the crisis is over... the power grid has been restored... and, my happy little life can pick up where it left off. ztnoo 2,298 #19 Posted May 18, 2018 Here's a new update from my audio repair expert in New Milford, CT. "STORM RECOVERY UPDATE: I was just out on a bike touring the area. Some tree crews are beginning work in the greater area and major connecting roads near us. A lot of homes lost roof shingles or vinyl siding. A lot of close calls, with large trees down that missed homes by just a couple feet, but no disasters, fortunately. Eversource is beginning to set new poles along the road that our road connects to. The entire infrastructure is being replaced, not rebuilt. Unfortunately, rebuilt above ground, so this can happen again, next storm. I have a feeling we may be back in service in substantially less than the month it took last time a storm like this hit. We're hopeful"
ericjr16 125 #20 Posted May 18, 2018 Late check in due to just getting power/internet/phones back. We are in the Hudson Valley region. We had a few reportly tornados or microbursts. Thank God no real damage but nearby had a lot of down trees. Very thankful to turn generator off and enjoy the quiet.
nylyon-(Admin) 7,268 #21 Posted May 19, 2018 Last night I went out for the first time since the storm and in the areas not badly affected it’s bad. Trees down all over, buildings damaged. Many are still without power, and some have very substantial damage to their homes.
