WH c120 Manual lift lever not working

Happy to say I just got my first Wheel Horse.  Its an 8 speed c120 Kohler engine and 42" recycler deck.  Runs great of course but the manual lift lever that raises the deck isn't working properly.  It seems to be the sliding cam (arrow pointing to lower lever where the sliding cam is) isn't engaging with the notch to hold the deck in the lifted position.  I can hold the lever to raise the deck about 4" off the ground but when I release the lever it just drops back on the roller wheels of the deck.  I sprayed some WD40 in there hoping that it might help but it didn't.  Anyone else have this problem before?  Do I just need to replace the part or am I missing something?

 

Second question, is the bolt shown in the second picture stock or is it something rigged by a previous owner?  Its part of the lifting mechanism for the deck.

Seems you may have identified your own answer, the rod in the second photo you need to move the pivot point of you lift link back to the hole where the bit of rust can be seen. You are not able to latch the deck up because you are attempting to lift it too high.

Does the release button spring back up far enough? The spring gets rusted and broken and it's fairly easy to replace if that's your issue.

The rod which locks into the notch can get worn on the top edge so it needs to seat into the notch as deep as possible.

 

Disconnect the link to the deck and get that arm to lock correctly in the "up" position. Then connect the deck linkage and make adjustments so it stays in that up position. Use the knob for down adjustment.

The decks don't really lift too high

Sorry I didn't reply any sooner, I was outside all day messing with the new tractor!  It was good times.  I now know why so many folks get 5, 10, 20 Wheel Horses, it's because you don't know what to do with yourself once you finish dressing one up.

  

Richard you were right on.  As soon as I moved that bolt to the third hole it made all the difference, everything fell into place after that.  The deck would rise much higher than before and the spring loaded pin fit into the notch nice and snug (Thank you John)! 

 

I discovered an additional questions during my day (I'll create another thread if you think I should):

How the heck do you guys get the transmission fluid into the transmission?  I ended up slowly siphoning it into the case through the dip stick hole but that was slow and seemed wrong.  Do I remove the dipstick fitting, I would need a square adapter if that's the situation?

Remove the shift lever and fill through there. It's just a 1/4" lock nut and a hex head dog point set screw.

Some models are a pain just to remove the shift lever so I bought one of those smaller bottles of gear oil with the cone tip and squeeze it in through the dipstick tube. Re-fill the bottle each time. Gravity feed through through there takes forever.

take one of the bolts out that hold the rear fenders on to the top at the transmission. this lets air out as you fill through the dipstick
