Chris G 3,297 #1 Posted April 14, 2018 I got this RJ today. Not the original motor, but I got a k91 that will go on it. Only thing I'm confused on is the serial number. I slightly cleaned the original tag off and can make out the model and serial number. Ill get a better picture of the tag when i take it apart. The tag says model RJ58 serial #21033. But according to the serial number info recorded in the manual section. It does not pan out with the 58 numbers, it would fall into the 59 numbers. So were the rj59 tractors still tagged as a 58? Any thoughts or info would be greatly appreciated. 10
Chris G 3,297 #2 Posted April 14, 2018 I'm pretty sure the casting number for the transaxle breaks down to June 18 1959
953 nut 56,496 #3 Posted April 14, 2018 we all know that the Ponds were vert thrifty. You wouldn't expect them to throw out perfectly good tags would you? Lots of folks say they have never seen an RJ-59 because they were all tagged as '58. Heck, lots of "63 models have 62 as the first numbers of their serial numbers. 4
Chris G 3,297 #4 Posted April 14, 2018 @953 nut That's kinda what I was thinking is that they were using up the tags. But I wasn't exact on that. So in your mind would you say it's safe to say it a RJ59?
953 nut 56,496 #5 Posted April 14, 2018 Heck yes, with a '59 casting number and high serial number I would say so. 1
Herder 2,354 #6 Posted April 14, 2018 I don't know anything about the tags, but it sure looks nice.

wallfish 17,142 #8 Posted April 15, 2018 Any RJ is a nice find. They were all tagged RJ-58. Your serial # and trans cast number pretty much confirm a 59. Plus the solid seat. A K91 is a natural for that tractor.
Chris G 3,297 #9 Posted April 15, 2018 I was pretty sure in thinking it was a 59. But I always like to double check with others.
