kgenova 17 #1 Posted March 23, 2018 I recently upgraded my original wheelhorse 48 inch snow plow with a Warn ProVantage 54 inch snow plow. Due to the increased weight from the warn snow plow, the hand lift mechanism became very tiring. I decided to fabricate a snow plow lift off the front of the tractor with a linear actuator to mechanically lift the snow plow with the press of a button. The pictures below show the finished product. Two days ago I put it to the test when a nor'easter dumped a foot of snow and the tractor/ plow setup worked perfectly. 7

Ed Kennell 37,988 #3 Posted March 23, 2018 Very nice. Is a power angle in the works? Did you make a removable hood to check oil?
pfrederi 17,635 #4 Posted March 23, 2018 Beautiful work. What do you run for weights in the back? With the big blade and the actuator she must be nose heavy when you lift it.
elcamino/wheelhorse 9,290 #5 Posted March 23, 2018 @kgenova Where did you purchase the actuator and what size is it ?
kgenova 17 #6 Posted March 23, 2018 In the rear I run Carlisle Tru Power 23x10.5-12 with 50 pound wheel weighs in each. As far as the power angle, yes that is in the works! Unfortunately I have not modified the hood to be removable yet! In order to check the oil I have to unbolt the snow plow lift frame from the tractor frame.
kgenova 17 #7 Posted March 23, 2018 @elcamino/wheelhorse I purchased the actuator from Firgelli Automations, it is there premium high force linear actuator (400lb dynamic force/ 800lb static force). Excellent! 2nd, might the rear bolts be a pin instead; i.e.: remove pin, fold mount forward down? Open Horse's hood?
kgenova 17 #13 Posted March 24, 2018 @Tankman Wow, did not even think to use pins in the rear bolt holes! Great idea! Thanks!
BOB ELLISON 2,980 #14 Posted March 24, 2018 Welcome to Redsqure. That would be great for blower also and on the rear for tiller. Great job on that.
Ed Kennell 37,988 #15 Posted March 24, 2018 I see you have rubber bumpers on the plow frame where it contacts the axle. Does the actuator have adjustable limit switches? If not, how do you limit the travel? Have you considered a solid link instead of the chain for down pressure?

Might tilt the hood enough for an oil check. Let us know how you make out. Your rod collection reminds me of home, eastern Long Island south shore. Added surf casting rods but, prefer boat side.

kgenova 17 #18 Posted March 24, 2018 @Ed KennellGreat observation with the rubber bumpers, the actuator has built in limit switches for when the actuator if fully retracted or fully extended. I did add a limit switch for when I extend the actuator out because the actuator stroke is 6 inches and I only use probably 4-5 inches. The limit switch is set to stop the actuator just as the rubber bumpers touch the axle. 1
Sarge 3,463 #19 Posted March 24, 2018 Nice work, and welcome aboard ! How heavy is that blade, materials wise? Does Warn actually sell just the blade separate? Sorry for the questions, I'm a bit, uh...detail oriented. Sarge
kgenova 17 #20 Posted March 24, 2018 @Sarge I weighed the blade after I attached the springs and snow plow frame and it weighed about 110 pounds. Yes you can purchase the warn plow blade by itself, I purchased it off amazon. Hard to beat amazon especially with free shipping! With a few bushing and spacers the warn plow blade fit perfectly to the original wheel horse snow plow frame.
pfrederi 17,635 #21 Posted March 24, 2018 That 54" blade may have to be an upgrade for one of my winter horses. Pretty sure the Sundstrand will lift it. May have to up engine the Charger 12.

Sarge 3,463 #23 Posted March 25, 2018 I was mostly interested in it for an upgrade in width, but 14ga is a bit light for what I want. It would work great for snow or lighter dozer work though.. I want to make an adjustable wing design , but would prefer to start with the 54" as a platform to build from. Appreciate the part number, still waiting for the new computer to show up and running off a mobile device is tough on the eyes. Sarge
kgenova 17 #24 Posted March 25, 2018 @Sarge The warn plow blade I used on this build is their heavier duty blade with 12 gauge steel. Here is the link for the Warn Provantage 54 inch blade: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003JIBFJK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
