Not going to restore it, just make it usable. I just have to baby the hydraulics through this winter then redo the pump and buy as close as  a match to original rear tires

953 nut

:text-coolphotos:    That is a very nice looking first generation 953 you have there. Only about one thousand came with that steering wheel and recessed head lights. Feel free to ask any questions you may have.           :WRS:

A bit more information on the three generations of 953 :wh:.

As far as I can determine there were three 953 generations, the first 1000 +/- had the recessed head lights which were actually left over HL-22 kits (serial numbers 62-  XXX), Ross steering and the steering wheel shown below.

Also the hydraulic pump had a different type spring which I understand is only found in the 953 and the HY-2 pumps.

The second 1000 +/- had the the Ross steering but the later steering wheel and head lights like the 1054 (serial numbers 3XXXX). The third generation had the fan gear steering and continued the 1054 steering wheel and head lights (serial number 4XXXX).

The seat frames changed from 953 to 1054.

The 1054 is basically a third generation 953 with a slightly different seat frame. The bends on the seat frame of the 953 (all three generations) are smooth and the bends on the 1054 seat frame is dimpled at the bends.

Those appear to be PO (previous owner) modifications.

Great score! 953's are nice tractors and are a nice change of pace to most wheel horse tractors. I had one once and sold it to 953 nut, he is the expert on the particular tractors! If you need a hydraulic rebuild kit, i suggest wheel horse parts and more. Click the link below.

5 big wheels, in various forms or stages.  One with melted wiring, one runner, one in need of an engine, one full project and one in the middle of nap time.  @953 nut thanks again for turning on my big wheel switch!

Got a 953 and 414-8 from Big Red Fred the other day. Got a great deal on both of them. Both run great and I am very pleased with them. Got the 414 for my grandpa and the 953 was just to good of a deal to pass up, so now I got another tractor in my collection

This 953 that we have dubbed “Hot Wheels has quickly become a go to tractor for myself... and my kids especially!  The increased visibility, the feeling of a big tractor, the hydraulics, who knows what really makes it so different from the rest.  Now that the Magnum 12 roars to life so easy, it’s that more attractive to jump on and take a stroll or do some chores!

Here are some pictures from this morning, checking my food plot after some sprinkler time and a few days of good soaker rain showers.  I’ll try to keep this thread active as photo ops present themselves.

I wanted to show off my 953 i bought last year from the original owners son. I am very proud to own this piece of great american engineering. It was bought local in kendallville indiana the building is still standing where this tractor was sold. I got the greatest deal on it. It came with a snow blade, snow blower and a mower deck. i have since sold the snow blower because it was for a much newer horse. i am an originalist. This tractor i was told has only had an axle seal fixed and his dad many years ago slapped a new coat of paint on it. that is it never been rebuilt or anything else. It is one of my prizes horses.

Boys, having problems with the front wheel alignment on my 1054a.  Seems as tho the tie rod is about 1/2" or so too short causing the front tires to pigeon toe.  Tore everything apart can find nothing wrong or bent.  According to WH parts diagrams, the 953 and 1054 tie rods are the same part number.  Perhaps one of you good fellas could give me the measurements of your tie rods so I can verify mines the correct length?  Maybe something else Im missing here?

      Thanks,
      Mike
