hcminis 1,557 #1 Posted March 7, 2018 Hope to get this little beauty Friday. May look like junk but hopefully it can be saved. 16
Mike'sHorseBarn 3,036 #2 Posted March 7, 2018 That will most definitely be quite the project, but hey, anything is possible! I'm not the greatest expert in early RJ's so I can't tell you exactly what is missing, but it should be fun finding what you need. Look forward to the build! Aldon 4,827 #5 Posted March 7, 2018 Nice. These older RJ's are rare enough that its worth saving if at all possible. IMO

WHX?? 49,515 #11 Posted March 12, 2018 (edited) The Pond casting is worth the price of admission! Gotta look at the brite side ... the steering wheel is off! Good luck with her! Edited March 12, 2018 by WHX14 5
hcminis 1,557 #12 Posted March 13, 2018 Success on so many levels this evening. Transmission is free and everything looks good and spins smooth. Steering shaft may need to be cut out. It is froze in the lower sleeve. Hood gets dropped off tomorrow to get fixed. Hope to have it by next weekend.

oliver2-44 9,929 #14 Posted March 13, 2018 Put that whole steering shaft and hood support in a 55 gallon plastic barrel E-tank and let it cook a few days. An E-tank would be a good way to de-rust a lot of those parts if you don,t have a media blaster

WHNJ701 4,165 #16 Posted March 13, 2018 for rust I use a plastic tote with a 10 gallons of white vinegar let it soak for a few days, works great
stevebo-(Moderator) 8,364 #17 Posted March 13, 2018 This one has me thinking.. Looks like the front rims are silver and the kill switch is bigger which would make it a 55' but the rear hitch is a 56'. My guess is that it is a very late 55'. Nice save!!

Heat, paraffin wax, let cool then twist with a pipe wrench. clean the exposed shaft with a file or sandpaper and it will come out.
hcminis 1,557 #19 Posted March 14, 2018 more success last night. Finally able to get the steering block off and shaft removed. Unfortunately the shaft is bent so I'll makea new one. Sorry for all those purist but it nothing more than round steel bar stock. Will be easier to make a nrw one than try to straighten this one. Also was able to get the Vari-Drive to work. 3 6
