Jerm’s Dad 4 #1 Posted February 21, 2018 I have a 854 that has the 2 piece gas tank. I believe it's made of aluminum. What is the best way to remove the paint? It looks very rough as it is. I have the inside clean.

JPWH 6,147 #4 Posted February 21, 2018 If you are replacing the gasket you could soak it in lacquer thinner. Then clean good with acetone or your preferred metal prep before repainting. 1

953 nut 56,164 #6 Posted February 23, 2018 Read the ingredients label on the product you are considering. Highly alkaline products like sodium hydroxide can eat aluminum!
Achto 27,909 #7 Posted February 23, 2018 This is true @953 nut. After the paint is removed wash your part of with some brake cleaner. I've used this stripper multiple times to strip paint off of carburetors as I don't like any paint on my carbs. One carb I have was stripped this way 3 years ago & still looks & works good.

Jerm’s Dad 4 #9 Posted February 26, 2018 Thanks everyone for the great tips. New at this and don't want to do anything that will end up costing more down the road.
