My 10 year old daughter gave me a hand Saturday night and we had some torch safety lessons. With the torch and a 20 ton arbor press, the hubs slid right off (fighting us tooth and nail) those 1-1/8" axles! The trans is pretty loose and requires a fill up every time I run it... probably a good time to open 'er up and see how bad the inside really is. A while back I built some front axle spacers and spun them on the lathe to get about .010" play for the wheel to keep some grease. With the drilled and tapped hubs I'll be able to run the C-101 caps in front when I'm finished. Pullstart 62,834 #29 Posted March 20, 2018 I drained (mostly) and split the trans case this morning, much to my surprise one of the intermediate shafts has NO needle bearing, not even the bearing cage left in the casting! The other needle bearings are toast, broken bits of bearings all over in the case. Judging by the shape of some gears I've seen in some other trans rebuilds, I'm just facing bearing surface issues and seals, along with a good cleanup of course. @stevasaurus or @Racinbob, any input on the shape of the bearing areas of the case or the shafts? 4 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

To the touch, at least one of the intermediate shafts feel worn, not sure If that is the same as a 3 speed trans or special to the 8 speed? Pullstart 62,834 #35 Posted April 17, 2018 Haven't gotten a ton done lately as we were on an adults only couples vacation with some friends on a Western Caribbean Carnival cruise for spring break. Yah yah, big reason to complain, huh? Tonight I prepped the frame for some primer and a coat of regal red, I plan to give all the big components one coat of red before I assemble the majority of the rolling chassis, then give it all another coat or three. I ordered a trans rebuild kit from Lowell, the ebay carb, new tires and tubes, a skinny air filter, and maybe some other stuff to help me get off my butt and finish this thing. One of my tires showed up yesterday, the other is lost in shipment from the NW side of Grand Rapids to my place 20 minutes south. Yay... I'm guessing there were 3 or 4 points of handling between the two? The eBay seller stated it was coming from California, but it shipped locally! Gotta love warehousing. The carb and tubes showed up too. Some of the pictures appear to be in whatever order they choose, sorry about that! 6-11-18 Grinding the welds in on the hood a couple months ago... or weeks. I'm not sure. After some hammer and dolly, I think it's ready to get blasted and primed, then some skim coating and sanding. Here's a "what's in your mirror" pic. I was hauling the C-101 to my Sister and Brother in-law's new house to do some one bottom plow invisible fence trenching. Still need to finish the ramp system for my truck rack that I was building. Pullstart 62,834 #40 Posted June 14, 2018 6/13 pics... we got chicks yesterday, the coop isn't finished but it's weather proof and critter-tight for now. Since I made the support for the exhaust, I figured I'd build a couple little set screws to keep everything from rotating. I understand that's quite a bit of mass to keep upright for a 13 hour journey... give or take. I'm going to try to skim my welds but as mentioned in the beginning, I'll be leaving some of the scars and bruises. This tractor has earned it just like we've earned ours. The hood has been layered with grey/black so I can do some more wet sanding when I skim the welded area. More stuff is colory. I used a hammered black paint for the wheels, so to tie things together the front hanging weight is hammered now too. A couple things to note about background articles: the race car is not mine. Many of the vehicles and machinery in the background are not mine either. But I did pick up this Scag Freedom Z 52" ZTR this week, to relieve the C-101 42" RD of the 3 acres to mow. It's the same color as Mrs. Pullstart's tractor, so it can't be all that bad, eh? I guess there's time to upload pictures, when you're literally watching paint dry!
