EB-80/8inPA 1,784 #22657 Posted January 6 I pretty much wrapped up snow preps today by getting the chains and blower mounted on the C-160. I also replaced the carb as it seemed to be an ongoing factor in getting gas in the engine oil. A friend explained how that can happen but I still don't get it, I thought it surely was the fuel pump. Just hoping the fresh oil stays gas free. It really cheezed me off to toss the last 2+ quarts I put in after doing the electric fuel pump conversion and cleaning the old carb. Got about five, maybe six minutes of run time on that oil accomplishing nothing. Ugh. Anyhoo; Let it snow! I’m ready! I think. 2

MainelyWheelhorse 954 #22665 Posted January 6 (edited) Today after work I, *drained the old gear oil I had in the 308 as I had a leak and it looked iffy and runny so I figured why not. I drained it at 4, by 10:30 when I quit for the night, still no leak. *refilled it with 2 quarts of new 90wt oil, *checked the idler on the 308 and it was loose I tightened it and it’s much quieter. * found out through my father that one of my cousin used to own my 308. so both tractors, were owned by a member of my family at some point. As for the current topic, as a Hannaford HTG employee. Bread, booze, and milk seem to be in the top 3 for storm supplies. The mere mention of a storm, and the bread vanishes. ‘Working on the 308. The old oil. Edited January 6 by MainelyWheelhorse 7

bassJAM 93 #22668 Posted January 6 Well I was 5 minutes into plowing snow this morning and slipped a drive belt and upon inspection it was shot, and probably the wrong size to begin with. Took 45 minutes to run to the local TSC that's only 6 miles away and replaced the belt and finished my driveway. 10" of snow is a once every 10 year event for us in Cincinnati! 7
peter lena 9,068 #22669 Posted January 6 @DevonianHorse always keep it rubbed down with an oily rag definitely relate to that , been doing that for years , when ever I pick up a used neglected anything , part of my base line recovery is always a penetrating oil spray down , let it soak in days , darkened phase is showing you , patina base , possibly recovery , like to recover in stages , always lubrication based , if paint starts to show thru , to any degree , like a 6" electric palm buffer , with a cleaner wax , my horses all have a recovered oil finish , shed moisture like a duck , what are those 2 wire / cables , on side of engine ? pete

davem1111 2,091 #22673 Posted January 6 We got 9-10" of snow yesterday and last night. I used my GT-1848 to plow the driveway, which is about 150-200 feet with a loop at the end. Started out with just Ag rears with weights, but was slipping too much so I pulled into the garage and put the chains on - much better. No pictures today, maybe I'll take a few tomorrow. I'm concerned about my hydro though. It was around 20-25* and it took at least 15-20 minutes to warm up enough to lift the plow and move forward/backward consistently. Oil level is fine, but I've never changed it and it's probably very old. I do have a spare Eaton 1100, which I'm not too worried about swapping if I need to. What is the normal warmup time for these?

Certainly not that long. At 20⁰ I'd think you should be functioning within 5 to 10 minutes MAX. Definitely try a full fluid change right away. 1

I did that with my 520HC that has a delay as well and that did help some. 4
