Doing my part to keep the economy going round and round

Same here.   Just had my 2010 F-150 Pa annual State inspection done for $1200.    New rotors, calipers, and hoses.

You got off easy.  $1200 was the labor bill on my work.

Just for grins, I'm going to have the work that was done to the truck quoted by a different dealer.  Kind of a reality check.  The dealer I used does OK work, but something feels 'off' about them.

Just like with doctors, it's good to get a second opinion sometimes.

Since State Inspections were mentioned by @Ed Kennell, I thought I'd mention how I've gotten spoiled by moving to Indiana from PA about 11 years ago - Indiana has *no* state inspections. Which is a mixed blessing, since I've seen stuff on the roads here that probably wasn't even safe enough to be driving around in the fields. But none of that "getting raked over the coals" every year. Similar stories from when I was in PA. You gotta do it to stay legal, and the shops know it. They always find something. Here, if something needs fixing, I fix it. I have found a shop or two that I can use for something I can't fix myself, and when I tell them "just fix that", that's all they'll do, at a reasonable price... but that is rare and hard to find.

I'm kinda dreading moving back to a state that has annual inspections.  Here is what the Google AI says:

AI Overview
The following states do not require regular vehicle inspections for passenger vehicles:
Alaska, Arkansas, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, South Carolina, South Dakota, Washington, and Wyoming.

Unfortunately, my next residence isn't likely to be in any of those.

Last May i brought home a C141-8 that was thrown in with another tractor to sweeten the deal. The previous owner said it would run.

Today I pushed it onto the lift table and started messing with it. A new carb, battery, and test tank for fuel.  Checked the oil, good to go.

It fired right up and sounded like a hammer mill. P.O. didn,t tell me it was knocking. Didn,t matter I was still bringing it home, but he could have told me about the bad knock, I would not have started it. Lucky it didn,t throw a rodi had even made up and painted a set of brackets to mount a snow blade under it. Had them hanging and drying under a furnace outlet.

I have a 10 hp kohler on the bench which may go into this machine.

Well worth taking a look at the balance gears.

I would start at the head. Look for anything ingested.

Then I would check the crank pin/ rod connection. And yeah, while the pan is off get rid of the grenade gears.

Good grief!

We have inspections here, but none of mine (NC) have ever been over $50.

If everything passes, the annual Pa inspection cost is normally $70.   $35 for mechanical, brakes, tires, exhaust, lights etc.    and $35 for the emissions test.

The sad part is, the emissions test is only required for several counties  along the  border  near Pittsburg, Philadelphia, Baltimore Md., Wilmington, Delaware and Trenton, NJ.

I happen to be in one of these Counties 40 mile from Baltimore.

My 2010 Ford inspection has been $32  tax and tag $77. My 1980 Toyota doesn't have to be inspected. Just pay for the tax and new tag sticker I beleive that was $44

@Ed Kennell Youse guys need to move to Richmond, state inspection is $20.00 no emission crap. Gas is about 40 cents a gallon cheaper.  Of course, there is a tax on everything except the air we breathe which is probably on the list of things the state boys are thinking about. There is a statewide band on Squonks and year-round open season 24/7

In North Carolina the auto inspection laws have on very counterintuitive little wrinkle in them. If you buy a brand new car, never been registered, never been driven; it is required to be inspected before it can be registered. But,      :confusion-shrug:  if you buy or own a vehicle that is thirty five or more years old no inspection is required. Guess the law was written with the vintage car collector in mind but there are lots of 1980s cars and trucks going up and down our mountains all the time for general transportation. Also, if your car doesn't pass inspection you can continue driving it until you get it repaired and reinspected or the registration runs out.     :auto-swerve:

Inspections only cost $ 13.00 in small owns like Franklin where there is no emissions inspection.

Pee Aaa annual registration fees in addition to the annual $70 inspection fee.

My F-150 = $105

Mr. Ks Ford Escort = $45

Antique car  = $96 + $67 verification fee

The good news....our current $0.611/gallon state gas tax may be reduced to  $0.57/gallon in 2025.   :banana-dreads:

Wisconsin should be on that list as well, with the exception of Milwaukee, Kenosha, & Racine counties. These counties require a biannual emissions test. There are no safety inspections as for road worthiness.

Added a safety item to the side by side.   She may pass the state inspection if I add lights.
