I see on the rims that the rim sides are about equal distance. Does it matter much whether you mount the tires from the front or back side?

Generally speaking if they are  rims, the air nozzle would be to the inside of the tractor.  The taper on the lug nut hole should be on the outside.

I put tubes in all of my tires and I put the tube hole facing up because I find it easier.

I mount one side of the tire on the rim. 

Get the tube in with the valve in the hole.

Then proceed from there.

 

If you're mounting a tire on a rim without tubes I don't think it matters.

Painted the seat for the 1045 and placed it on the tractor to get a look, think the regal red matches nicely. Now to let it finish drying. Little by little it’s getting there. Gitty up and cheers!

After two months of drought it has rained a lot the last few days.  Rained again to day so I did some hub repair.  Beats $126 for a new one...

Got it on Amazon a couple years ago.  It is a nice set but more than I really needed.  Have only used the 1-1/8" and 1" guides...  Over $200 now ... But I have done several hubs so it has paid for itself

I pulled the front wheels off of Clyde the C-195 today to remove the nasty ozone checked, dried out original 1982 tires.  Don't have either tire off of the rim yet - they are putting up a fight.  No problem breaking the tire off of the rim on the valve stem side.  I just put a length of 2x6 on the sidewall and drove my truck onto it - popped the bead right off of the rim.  The other side, however, was a different story. 

 

I ended up with a screw jack pushing the tire down while braced under the trailer hitch on the truck.  I also employed a large breaker bar and an 8 pound hammer adjacent to the foot of the screw jack.  Had to apply that around the tire 4 or 5 places before I got the bead broken loose from the rim.  By that time, I was wiped out and decided to leave the actual demounting of the tire for tomorrow .

I mounted the front tires on the rims, knowing full well there was gonna be some scratches to the fresh paint, I mounted in a way that all the scratches would be to the inside, then touched up those scratches with a brush.

 

Also put some color on a few parts today, and yesterday.

 

Black went on the pulleys yesterday, red today. 
 

Tomorrow I plan for a round of grey.

 

Hope to start reassembly this weekend.

 

Then once the bulk of the rolling chassis is back together, Ive gotta prep and paint the seat pan, and fenders.

 

Also want to clean the carb and open up the motor to make sure nothing is too out of whack with it, then paint that, mount and tractor complete.

 

So maybe another month and a bit.

For a junk tire I've used a sawzall with a long fine blade. A little time consuming but seems easier than the wrestling match.

I have used it or something like it several times to avoid having to reposition the hub a third time to complete the cut.  I only use it for the last inch or so, so it is stable.

@Heatingman  nice can work , noticing the opportunity on that idler pulley , often refer to a pocket screwdriver  to remove pulley side grease seals , just found / tried a very easy tool , small flat putty knife , the thin / stiff blade makes those seals pop right out with zero damage . lucas red / green grease . pete

Those bearings have already been re-greased.

Broaching. Even if it is an Amazon product, so long as it works- it keeps another Wheel Horse working. And by definition that is a broaching process!

Picked up this 8 popper today. Complete with starter,carb and PTO. Off of a no name 8 4 spd. in a scrapyard. Tractor was all there including the deck and it wasn't in horrible shape. Turns over and has compression. I'll get it on the engine stand in the next couple days and see if she's a runner.
