Achto 27,601 #15607 Posted May 6, 2022 I friend of mine purchased a D160 and brought it to me to give it a "new to me tractor with no history of past maintenance" treatment. While going through the usual stuff I ran across this disappointment. Looks like there is some soldiering in my future.
davem1111 2,030 #15608 Posted May 6, 2022 Today after work I started messing with the recently acquired 48" deck (the nicer of the 2). Pulled the blades (well, I think I pulled them yesterday...) and noticed a bit of wear on one of the spindles where the blade goes on. Thick washer was missing. Pulled some washers from an old 42" deck, mounted blades. Put deck on 312-A to see if it would work. Deck belt sloppy - noticed that tensioner was seized. Started raining so I took it in the garage and unmounted deck, took off guards and did a lot of cleaning and lubing, got tensioner working again. Re-installed guards with fresh new bolts, greased spindles, put deck back on tractor. Cut 2 swaths in the rain, deck cuts beautifully (and *wide* ). Garage is looking more and more like a "proppah" Wheel Horse shop now. 416-8 parts tractor still outside. 3
8ntruck 7,016 #15609 Posted May 6, 2022 @Dan.gerous find the date code on the tires. That was most likely when they were mounted on the wheels.

Believe it or not there used to be a guy up the road who sold used mowers and parts. Hundreds of tractors and engines all over the place. And a junk pile of just the skeletons. All gone now. 1

D_Mac 8,620 #15617 Posted May 6, 2022 (edited) Painted the gas tank on the 856 project with some paint i had laying around. It's not Regal Red. It's kind of orangey but it looks better then it did. I also washed my trailers. Thinking about painting the newly acquired dump trailer. So far I'm just thinking about it. I also named my 856 project. I never name any of my tractors but I feel this name fits it. Remember it was abandoned in a field of weeds for decades. So ....... It wasn't the correct plow for the tractor. Might work on yours. If you want to come look at what's there let me know.
