So, what say you...20200828_105658.jpg.bd08c67ba0514b3c5b9971da620dce1c.jpg

on the replicated patina panels...20200828_105706.jpg.fcbc2938db8585bba74419f5e1511261.jpg

should they stay, or should they go?

My thought was always to make the hood match them, but now I'm waffling back and forth over here. :confusion-shrug:

I think you took it the point where the belt guard and panels should be painted up nice and glossy to match the hood, give it the mirror gloss look

Kinda leaning that way too. It's just that, though they may not read that way in picts, them panels turned out so darn believeable with their color and paint texture.

Thinking I'm almost ready to apply that process to an RJ-35 project I have sitting in wait.

I'll second that. I got to put in my vote for fresh paint all around...

Can’t go wrong with Eastwood products. I’ve had good luck with the Rustoleum clear. I spray the enamel and 10 minutes later clear it and a half hour later you can handle the part. Eastwood is twice the price but good stuff. May get a can and “experiment some. :)

This time I tried Majic Paint from Tractor Supply and hate it. Anyone else tried that paint?

I did not have an orange peel issue but I did get a lot of stuff done around the house in between coats. It took at least an hour for each coat to tack up enough to be ready for another coat. The paint seems to hold up well though. I used it on my snow plow last fall and it still looks good after plowing snow through winter. I did use a their hardener in the paint that I sprayed.

Fresh paint it to match and patina the other one. Turned out sweet.

@AMC RULES does it hold up well to gasoline? I would love to clear my fuel tanks on Lil’Red but they are bare aluminum.

Yeah I am going back to using Rust-oleum. That other paint is garbage. I thought I would try it out. Glad I tried it out on a Cub Cadet and not a Wheel Horse !

I used seymour paints “safety red” on Skittles and it seems to be very durable when dry. It laid down nice too but not nearly as nice as that rustoleum with the eastwood clear. I did not clear coat it either.

I checked out his stuff, he does some really cool work, the t75 panzers are amazing.  I did alot of custom 1/48 airplane builds and know what it takes time wise to build quality planes, for what he asks for those models it's a great buy if your into them, he has alot of talent and skills

Dries pretty much bullet proof.

Lay down my clear immediately after the color goes on.

As in, set down one can, pick up another.

The Eastwood Diamond Clear easily cuts my painting cure time in half.

Might I ask how many coats of the rustoleum did you get on before the eastwood diamond clear? If you've already said I apologize because I missed it somehow...

I stood my ground buddy, and sprayed a whole brand new can on that hood before it ran out on me.

Thinking probably the better part of a whole can of the clear too, but remember, there was a little bit left over for Madge's original patina demo this morning too.  :greetings-wavingyellow:
