I use mine in reverse, but there is still some compaction due to the tiller tines being narrower than the rear wheels.    My tiller has to be centered as it driven by the tractor PTO.

@Tractorhead could offset his to cover one of the tire tracks and eliminate compaction.    This would work with the tiller on the front or rear.

I tried it once, drive in reverse, but i like to drive forward, what is more comfortable.

 

where extremely hard spots, i have to try 3 time forw, reverse, vice versa to loosening the soil.

Additionally we have here an very loamy soil.

That was my reason i shreddered a lot of fallen branches and twigs last year to compost, i wanna mix that with the Soil.

Even i will mix additionally some compost under, to get a bit more nutrient into soil.

 

Another thing is i have 2 more hack stars for the tiller found last year.

with the Engineupgrade from 3,5 HP to 6 HP it shall easily pull them additionally.

So i get a wider workwith and can handle it simply.

Soooo, first part is done.

 

before attaching, i try to start the Tillerengine firstly to see how and if it‘s work after Winterbreak.

one slightly pull and it fires right up and spinns smoothly in idle.

 

Because of your suggests and my tries last year i wanna find out the max. usable Angles, where the fueltank ain’t spills Gasoline.

In my first try‘s last year on the front, it spills at a to strong er tilt angle, 

i do it now again with same results.

Than i move it forward and after my tests i found out there was a good angle to the Front without spilling.

 

that was my way to go.

 

 

If i lift it a bit more app. 10 deg. more than the Angle seen in background it spills fuel out of reservoir.

Than i lift it forward and i can tilt it much more than in rear without spilling.

 

so i construct the Mount out of two Angle irons with 6mm thickness and drill few holes in.

than i mount them under the cover in front including Engine mounting points.

so i have a strong interconnection with both and be able to dismount it for engineswap or whatever.

 

 

As leveler i used simply a rect. pipe with 20mm and 2 mm thickness i had in spare from the Plow project.

 

i measured the distance to Frametip to have it in parallel.

As distance, i guessed 12cm shall be a good value and sticked the Pipe.

Another measurement shows it ok and i welded it thru.

 

as a Liftlink i also used the same Angleiron i have and let it up to 20cm.

 

With my meter i simulate the angles and the Lift way and marked the best position to lift it and to set it as deep as it is on the old stand.

 

 

As Axle i use simply same 16mm threaded rod as i did for the plow.

That is strong enough to handle the lift forces and easy available, because i have it in spare.

 

Than i Opened the screws for the stand and flip them 2 holes up and remount to have more clearance.

 

 

Now a new Belt is ordered, because the old one is to rotten, it needs to exchange.

 

next issue is organizing a pipe with 30mm in dia 6 mm thick to mount the additional hackstars i have.

 

than it should have the tilling with of my Reartyres.

 

I thinkering to build an lever sideway‘s, where i can mount the PTO clutch lever from the tiller and also a throttle lever.

Got a project tractor running today. Then gas started running out the air cleaner... 

 

I made the hole a tad bigger with a dental pick .. goin to try and solder it up just for the halibut..

I try to use yesterday first time my reworked Tiller on the Horse in Backmount.

So i installed the new Belt and Switched the ignition to on, choke and a lightly pull and the Engine fires right up.

It seems a Great beginning for preparing the Field.

 

The first raw was abolutely a success, it works better than in front, where i trying last year.

i‘m very satisfied with the result so far and decide to continoue the whole field.

but than in the middle of the second raw i hear suddenly a loud „ploink“ followed by a rattling noise and the Tiller stops moving.

😳

 

i lifted the tiller immediately and the Belt was still spinning, but the Hackstars stalls.

On my test before, the pulley and the hackstars spins easily and smoothly without any troubles.

So i greased it before on the original greasenipples.

 

A closer inspection shows, i can easily spin the Hackstars without any resistance at all, also the Pulley,

but even with removed Belt no reaction on the Pulley at all it seems one of the internal Chain’s riped.

if a shear bolt will be damaged it normally would be moving just a little bit without force.

 

not good now.

 

Today rain, stormy winds an 2 degC.

 

Let‘s see what happens if Weather gives me a chance.

I cleaned up the remains of PennDot's  tar and chip road project.    The excess chips were being carried into the garages on car tires and into the house in sneaker soles.

Stones are a no-no on my new hardwood floors.

About 100" of sweeping yielded about 1/4 ton of stone.    Enough to cover the area where I pressure wash the greasy horses.

The city of Stanton, Mi. was using a brush similar to that one for sidewalk snow removal this year.  Unfortunately, it was on one of those green tractors .

Fulfilling the number 1 wish of wife’s bucket list. Putting in an Inground Pool. Plenty of landscaping and irrigation work that makes the Horse earn some of its keep. The Supervisor is my constant companion Leonidas. Long haired registered German Shepard.

I can get one for the farm tractors (Massey Ferguson, Kubota or the big Valtra) but it would be more fun to use the wheelhorse 🙂

 I know...But just an aside - I used to race motocross in high school and one of the tracks we frequented was in Stanton... 1978 - 1981...Many moons ago!

Trina and her mom spent some time moving sticks and wood around.

I messed with learning on the welder for awhile then cleared branches from a decent sized hemlock that I'd laid over a couple weeks ago.
