Friday afternoon we got Hot Wheels and Jane out to do some yard cleanup from construction projects.  You know... the kind that make mowing one more step??  We never use that door, but built an approach anyway... after 20 something years of it not having one.  That turned into play time.  Then Rylee wanted me to drive crazy on Jane and she wanted to chase me / drag behind the trailer.  I figure if she falls, she is behind the rotating mass of everything so let her be a happy kid.  Note too, we were air lassoing on our horses!

Working on removing some old bearings from an RJ three piece transmission side plate today.  I want to get it ready to rebuild while in Florida in February!

If they are not rusted in they must be welded!

Going to have to get some assistance!

I don't have a welder or an anvil here!

You don‘t have a Bearing extractor set?

Sadly i‘m to far away to help you out, i purchased one at habor freight, maybe not perfect quality,

but handy and useful enough for a reasonable price if you don’t need it daily.

Additionally it still lasts until now, even i missused it for different reasons.

Yes I have a Harbor Freight Bearing extractor set and it was not the took for these bearings!

I think this transmission was the one that had the most rusted, broken and water filled three piece transmissions I ever saw!

However the center case and side plates were good!

One of the challenges of 60 year old machines!

Started opening up the engine on my GT-14.  Good news STD piston no scoring on the cylinder walls.  Should get way with .010 over...  We have had a lot of discussions here about what if any sealer you should use on a head gasket.  I think RTV was not one of the suggestions.....but it wasn't leaking....

I think if simply remove wasn‘t proper working, i would take as next step a Hot Air gun or a burner,

to warm up the whole centerplate up to about 100- 150deg.C with bearings upside down.

if temp was reached, i would try use some Ice spray in bearingrings to shrink them.

Supported by lightly hits with a small hammer arround the Bearing it shall be popping out.

If no movement was seen, i would drill 2 small holes ( about 3mm dia.) inside the opposite bearing area thru centerplate

let me say to better understanding in North and South and use a ( sorry don‘t know the name of that tools)

to pry the Bearing with alternating light hammer hits carefully out of it‘s Seat.

allways alternately a hit on each side.

If needed it can be after that removal of the Bearing be closed by simply 2 Weldingpoints.

but because it was inside the Gearbox, i think it is not required.

Tractorhead - they have a couple of names in English.  Punches or drifts.

That sounds like a good method for removing stuck bearings.

Stefan, don’t be showing my girls that ice spray!  They’d be running around the Big Show trying to freeze everything like Elsa!

So I bought a couple more flat chisels to work on the RJ. Bearing removal.   Soaked the bearings overnight in penetrating fluid.   Started the round about hammering with my brass hammer and different sixes chisels.  About ten minutes into it I saw the closed bearing (center knocked out) start to move a little!   So I knew it was just a matter of working it out. Which it finally did and I ground diwn any gouges i. The metal until smooth and cleaned it out.   Still have the last race to get out on the other bearing but I will tackle tomorrow!

Ok my answer to removing the stubborn outter bearing ring on my RJ transmission plate I am rebuilding.  I decided to use my Dremel metal cutting blade to cut a slit in outter bearing ring and the welded bearing ring.  Cutting the slit allowed me to use a chisel to move the outter bearing race and cut a second and third slit in the outter bearing race using the same single slit I cut first through the welded bearing ring.

The girls had some friends over last night.  The homeschool academy is still on winter break until Monday.  It’s a blustery 30 degrees, feels like 14 with a constant strong wind.  Little MJ wanted to go for a tractor ride!

You know sometimes leaky axle seals are an advantage.  Leaky side is sliding off with just a light tug from a two jaw puller.  Other side didn't budge with the set up on there (pic 1)  Do not want to snap the flange so have to reconstruct my pull from behind set up used a few years ago on the D200 (pic 2)  Some of the steel tubing I used was repurposed in the interim so some new fabrication is needed.
