19richie66 17,500 #2676 Posted July 10, 2019 (edited) Thats a Cole-Hersee key. The regular style is Indak. This is an Indak but with a Toro cap. I think the early RJ’s used a two prong key? Edited July 10, 2019 by 19richie66
Pullstart 62,851 #2677 Posted July 10, 2019 Yesterday, I did a few things other than yard/house cleanup from the flood. Topped off oil oil and added Lucas additive to 4 tractors headed west tonight. Put a battery in the Commando 6, it has had borrowed cells in the past but now has it’s own energy. Fixed up Frank’s stack, I shouldn’t have cracking problems any more. Frank’s left stirrup would not stay put, it kept dropping down. I ground a flat on the pedal shaft so the set screw has a land to bit on. Putt Putt’s recoil quit grabbing. It happens about once a year. The center shoulder bolt on the back side of it backs out, then the assembly rotates instead of cam action. I cleaned it all up and red loc-tited the bolt in place... after I made sure everything was working well! Gave them a horrible bath, they ended up all muddy by the end of the night anyways! Oh well, they’re good enough for the gang I’m hanging with. Now it’s time to pack up the camper, load tools, load tractors and head out! We’re hoping to land near Chi-town tonight so we can get through before rush hour in the AM. Portage by mid-morning, if all goes well! 3

I ordered a batch of 5, wife said she was gonna give me one to use and stick the other four up my rear so I know where they are. Problem is that I don't like leaving them with the tractor because my kids can get it started, but then if I don't hang them up right away, which I often don't do because I don't go right to the house, I lose track of them. 1

I had me a habenaro burger the the other day, nobody wants to be anywhere near my rear! I am totally with you on the kids thing... When I bought Putt Putt 6 years ago, my 9 and 11 year olds were curious 3 and 5 year olds... the key lasted less than a day in the switch and it was a non-standard switch. That is to this day a key-less tractor!
Lee1977 6,659 #2682 Posted July 10, 2019 I always know where my tractor keys are they stay in the switch. I have miss-located for my car keys and my cell phone they turn up after looking everywhere. It's those thing you put some special place so you won't lose them that are never seen again.

Of course, there are no little kids around and nobody but Trina or I drives them. I very very rarely lose my phone or keys but... tape measures... Man. I do want to share something I did with the exhaust on the Cinnamon Horse. I had put a tall stack on that a couple weeks ago and it began backfiring AFTER I shut it off. I did some research about that on redsquare and I found that if your exhaust system is too restrictive it will allow raw fuel to build up inside the muffler after the ignition has been shut off so the spark plug is no longer burning that fuel. Normally that would take place on some sort of a sharp corner or a piece of weld or in my case, a bolt that I was using to hold the exhaust together. I took that bolt out and I took that long pipe off the top of the muffler and replaced it with a rain cap that is squeezed on from the outside. Not backfiring anymore.

squonk 41,100 #2688 Posted July 11, 2019 (edited) Today's project: Fitting the split weights onto Big Oly: First some of the hardware. These are 9/16 x 6 threaded rods from McMaster - Carr . These aren't your cheapie garden variety threaded rods you mind most places. Very high quality. Also some 9/16" lock nuts One side of the weights: Fitting a weight on. I set the height the studs will protrude from the hub by using 2lug nuts From Napa and lining up the edge of the stud to the edge of the nut then drew them in until the inner nut just touches the hub. Back side view. Both halves installed. PROBLEM!!! The wheel will not go onto the hub all the way. The weights don't fit far enough into the inside of the wheel! Had to tear every thing off and space the weights away from the hub. Another issue. Spacing the weight back interfered with the 2nd hub lock bolt. Look close. I had to grind a small area in the weight and used a socket head screw that I took some material off the head to clear. Snow bomber tire and wheel all mounted. 19richie66 17,500 #2698 Posted July 12, 2019 Yes. Hopefully will get to work on it a little while waiting to get up there. Just have nowhere at my son’s to keep it and mess with it. So to keep it out of the weather it will go into the storage unit.
adsm08 2,051 #2699 Posted July 13, 2019 Mowed. It ran like crap again. Electrocuted myself trying to reach the carb from the driver's seat while it was running. Got the yard done, but I have to figure this out. Tomorrow I'm going to try and get a new plug wire, maybe a different coil, and check the timing.
