Dad and I rebuilt it all back in 92-93, engine was blown, years of neglect and poor storage; we put on a brand new 42" recycler deck, took it down to the bare chassis, sandblasted most of it, PPG DBC r4 base with 2042 clear; been using it ever since up until this year. This is the one I never sell; I grew up on a 61 701, dad sold that one and bought a 78 c140 in 1981 and sold the 78 in 1992 when he took a new one for himself. ZXT 2,401 #2630 Posted July 3, 2019 (edited) Tore some of the sheet metal off of my new-to-me C160 in order to access the drive belt. For some reason the belt is still grabbing when I have the pump disengaged and the tractor tries to take off. Had to mow first and it got dark before I could tell much. Goldann520 241 #2631 Posted July 4, 2019 Got a few things done last few days. Tightened up the left axle hub that was loose. Swapped some wheels around and found out why the bomb wasn't charging. The voltage regulator plug ins were rusted right off. Still soaking the steering wheel nut daily in hopes of getting it off. Also put a new flywheel shroud on in place of the bottom rusted one. ZXT 2,401 #2634 Posted July 5, 2019 (edited) Unloaded the C160 out of the truck today. Stole the wheels off of an old Murray that I used to mow with, since it had 8" fronts. Dismounted them (Like my method? Lol! The high-lift jack I usually use wasn't at my place) and mounted them with tubes on the C160 front wheels. It had one good WH rear wheel with a good ag tire on it, and one really wide wheel with a weird offset and a bad tire. Put those on my Sears GT 19.9 and stole its rear wheels for the time being. Next, I changed the rear end oil, which was incredibly clean, but it only had around 1.5 QT. in it. Wouldn't start due to the points being completely ate up, so I replaced those. After that, I reinstalled the foot rest, belt guard, and seat pan, and put the seat off of my GT 14 on it. I haven't changed the engine oil yet, but it looks brand new even after running. It had a Napa oil filter on it, good oil in the trans, and every greaseable place pushed grease out after 1/2 pump from the grease gun, so I think this thing was relatively well maintained before it was parked. Doesn't appear to have ever had anything but a tiller on it. I think I might be beginning to like this thing! Now all I need to do is find a set of rear wheels, another mower deck, and fix the loose steering gear and I'll be set! I have a special arbor plate I made up for my 20T press for when that happens. It was heavy enough I had both back tires off the garage floor. It worked on the other three tires and the back side of that one. The front side was glued on with some thing. After removing the tire I had to cut the bead on the front side with the side grinder to get that ring off. Then I had to sand off what they used to glue it on. Sometimes you just have to get it done what ever it takes. I have had to cut a 24 x 11.5 tire off a farm tractor the same way. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

The wheel crumbled apart while I was turning around in the shop a while back And I almost ran into the wall.😑And picked up a trailer for it. Maybe 200 ft? Came inside for a bite to eat and then we went out and I cut down 4 large trees and Trina and her mom put plastic tape around at least a dozen others to mark which ones we will be harvesting. Almost all beech. They will be the trees that we use for the winter of 2020, 2021. Consideration was given to the health or lack thereof, of the tree. Positioning of the fall while cutting to eliminate collateral damage. Position in the canopy so as to open up for sun, but not too much. I'm using the light duty hitch which is really too low for the travel trailer - left skid marks in the lawn where the tong jack was dragging around. Also went wheels up ala pulling tractors when the tong jack got a big bite. Put the garden trailer on and hauled cement blocks and dock sections down to the lake to get the dock into the water. Mowing is next on the list. ZXT - I've got a pair of new rear tires. I came up with the same bead breaker idea you used. I suspect rears would be easier to do since they have more sidewall and the jack would be less prone to walking off. It would have worked better if I had been using a large floor jack with a chain wrapped through the receiver hitch and under the jack so that the suspension couldn't unload. Lee1977 6,659 #2650 Posted July 9, 2019 (edited) I got the 520 out to mow the front yard made about half a round and a blade came loose. Went back to the garage to tighten it up and found it was stripped. That was on the free 48" deck so no problem there. I do hate to have to work on equipment when I need to be mowing. I could have use the C-120/180 but the deck Idler was making a racket when I did the back yard Saturday. I do have a couple new spindles that my friend made last fall. So off with the deck to change it out. With a 1 1/8" wrench on the bottom and the air wrench on top It came right apart and the spindle fell out. That went better then I expedited. The new one didn't go quite as good, had to lay a little persuadesion on it with a rubber hammer. Then to get it back on the tractor. Those decks didn't seam so heavy 40 years ago. I going to start using the chain hoist to raise the front of the tractor and just roll the deck out and in. I got it fixed and the yard mowed by 4:30.
