8ntruck 7,011 #11779 Posted June 6, 2021 I sharpened the blades on my 42" SD deck today. Scraped the grass out and shot some grease in the spindles while it was off of the tractor, too. Last time I mowed, I was unimpressed with the quality of the cut. Sharp blades made a world of difference! They still had a little trouble with the tall, thick grass over the drain field. Almost seemed like I was loosing blade speed under the heavier load. The blades are the double D style, 13 1/2 inches long. They don't seem to overlap when the center and side blades are parallel when width wise in the deck. That does not seem right? The cutting edges of these blades have been sharpened back close to 1/4 inch. I need to start shopping for a new set. 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Normally I pull the hubs using the puller while the transmission is laying on the ground flat. Certainly can be done while they are on the tractor as well. Given that scenario I will often use a jack stand as a stabilizer. Snoopy11 5,714 #11782 Posted June 7, 2021 I bought a billet rod for my Duromax engine from ARC Racing (Amundsen Research Corporation), should arrive by Wednesday. This engine should pull over 40 hp... when I finish it... I also bought 2 axle oil seals tagged 1232 for my L-157... as the ones I used originally are very poor quality (I bought them off of fleabay... so I didn't expect very much... and didn't GET very much...). I personally bought these here from vendor Wheel Horse Parts and More: https://wheelhorsepartsandmore.com/product/1323-1263-100863-oil-seal/ Please comment on these seals if you have used them before and if they work good on the L-157!!! At this time, I am just working on axle seals... I might buy a better seal for the input shaft later... (it isn't leaking now... but I don't really trust fleabay parts anymore so...). Thanks guys! Tractorhead 9,064 #11790 Posted June 7, 2021 (edited) I ordered last Week a Toy especially and primary for my beloved Wheelhorse. Because we had few sunny hours i mow the Area. To check if the new High load belt works better, i decided to mow in highes Gear with 2/3 throttle and leave a few small islands for the Bee’s al mostly. after the Mowing Session, the Horse looks like this. but with it‘s new Toy it looks like that a great Tool. What the Tool was? I have no Water on the Shed, so i look for something to cleanup the Horse after Mowing with less than 20 Litres of Water. Ok, 10 Litres in a Bucket and scrub it off can also do the Trick, but you get Wet after that and it takes lot of Time. So i ordered for a Makita Accu a wearable pressure washer. Boy, that thing is that Cool. with only 7 Litres of clean Water out of 2 canisters, the horse appears to be like new painted. 60$ is a real fair Price for that Tool. He also gave me a hand pulling both hubs from a spare 8 speed that may end up in the C-160 Tecumseh engine tractor or as needed for whatever horse. Also from the 3 speed that I'll be rebuilding for Trina's Military Tribute Tractor. I'd been soaking the 8 speed for at least a year. Trina started spraying the 3 speed hubs a few weeks ago. All four came off!! Certainly took more effort than the ones on Steve's but it was great to see them slide out without serious issue. Here is the 8 speed on the bench, 3 speed on the floor, with the puller next to it. I’m actually surprised how nice a wheel horse looks purple! Installing is going to be fun, as you guys can imagine... and I have quite a bit of work ahead of me to even get this thing close to running on the tractor... BUT I think I have all the parts I need now! I have a long road ahead of me with this 40 hp engine. I have to completely tear it down, and rebuild. So... here is the game plan. Stainless steel push-rods, but keep the stock cam followers Grinding down exhaust lobe on cam (per ARC Racing's suggestion) [I also did this on my Tillotson stage 4 and it made a mighty difference in performance, but don't ask me the science behind it}. Custom fabricate an air filter adapter using 2-3 inch section of 2.5 inch exhaust pipe welded to the stock air filter metal flange (which I am going to cut and make round so it will look nice). Install a billet rod, hopefully without having to hone the wrist pin section of the rod with my dremel. (The fitment of the wristpin is up for debate whether it needs to be honed, most people saying that it fits just fine without honing). I bought a +.40 rod for this engine because my engine is +.70 in the hole. I haven't decided if I am going to grind down the piston yet... I am going to put a custom header on this engine. I am going to fabricate a top-plate for this engine so that it looks nice (no other purpose for the top plate than to be pretty for my application). I am going to be removing the balance shaft from this engine... as I don't need an extra piece of metal flying around in this engine. (ARC recommends this be done...). IMHO... anybody who's a commercial truck driver and needs to rely on a parking sensor should not be a commercial truck driver... People were using acronyms all the time, assuming everyone else knew exactly what they meant. Being new to garden tractors, and forums, many times I didn't have a clue. A complete dialog was sometimes lost to me, simply because I didn't know the difference between FEL and FIL. There are still a few out there I am not sure of. After being on the forum a while, I was able to pick up on the meaning of most of the acronyms, and things started to make sense. I wrote and published this on the other forum several years ago. Thought I would post it here, just for fun. Keep in mind, it's just a made up story. Acronysim confusionism When I first joined this forum, I have to admit, I had a little trouble deciphering all the acronyms. At times it made for some confusing reading on my part. As time and experience wore on, I was able to get most of them figured out. It may be a service to new members if there was a post explaining some of them. I know it would have helped me. As an example. My FIL ran across an add on CL. He spotted a CUT for sale. He went to look at the CUT, but ended up buying an SCUT instead. He took the SCUT to my BIL's place with the intention of building an FEL, to install on the SCUT. My BIL told him that a GT or even a LT would probably have worked for my SIL's use. They continued with the FEL build anyway. My MIL of course told him he paid too much for the SCUT. My FIL assured her that the PO insisted it was a great machine, Although the PO stated that he had had some trouble with the TDM. He thought it was a bad RIO, but turned out to be the TDM. During the build of the FEL for the SCUT, my SIL ended up buying a CUT. My FIL exasperated, decided they could build an FEL for the CUT also. After a lot of cutting, welding and BFH work, my FIL declared the FEL build was complete. When they went to try it out for the first time, the SCUT would not start. Another problem. My BIL even tried to pull start the SCUT with his ATV to start it. The ATV couldn't quite get the job done so my FIL used his PU. Still would not start. My BIL looked at YT for a possible cure. He found a thread in a GT forum where the OP stated he had the same type of trouble. After a little reading he decided the problem was in the RIO. My FIL sent my MIL on a RT in her SUV to town to get a new RIO for the SCUT so they could test the new FEL. The SCUT was a bit old but the dealer happened to have a NOS RIO on hand. That fixed the problem. After fixing that though it appeared there another problem with the SCUT, the PTO would not always engage. IIRC correctly that was a pretty simple fix, just some lose linkage. When it was all said and done my SIL has an SCUT with a working FEL and PTO. My MIL, FIL, and BIL were happy with the build. To this day though My SIL prefers to use her GT rather than her SCUT. She has a mulching kit on her LT so she uses that quite often also. IMHO I would put a mower deck on the CUT and use it to mow. But that's JMO. Keep in mind this is just a story. None of these things actually happened. No SCUT, CUT, GT, LT or even a PM was harmed by my FIL, MIL, BIL, or SIL during the build of this FEL.
