You can't hurt by doing that, and it may tell you a lot. @D_Mac I agree with Greg bud. You believe that you are better at making things look nice than run nice and maybe that's true and that's PERFECTLY OKAY. Look at it this way. ..... You have enough mechanical knowledge to understand that you should be feeling resistance somewhere every other turn and you're not getting it. These engines are very very hardy. Could be something simple or it could be something disastrous like a broken rod. Maybe it's repairable? Maybe the block is junk but everything else is okay? Who knows. Grab yourself some wrenches. Take an hour or three and carefully see what it takes to remove the cylinder head. You've lost absolutely nothing because you're already fairly sure it's broken and it's just not going to get more broken. Worst you can do in this scenario is learn something. The old 8 horse Kohler is in all honesty, about as bulletproof of an engine as you can come up with in a single cylinder. They are available for purchase. You certainly have a better than average looking tractor there so before you sell it do some poking around and call folks like Lincoln at A to Z to see what it would cost to get a running used 8. Might double your investment for the trouble of changing an engine. You may even have one sitting right there in front of you that's perfectly good but just has a stuck valve..... 2 2

Tractorhead 9,064 #10328 Posted April 9, 2021 Btw if you use the Fluxcore Welder, you have to change the polarity to get an usable result. If the ground connector is on your Ground clamp, if have to be changed to the Gun on Fluxcore welding and vice versa - just in case you are on the search for problems. That little trick will improve the seams dramatically. I bought me also last year a new cheap Welder, a 250A AC/DC MigMag Combo with Flux core ability. Firstly i thought that thing can not be anything usable for that price, but i be blamed. i paid less than 300$ for that welder. Here definitely a extrem cheap price, better systems begin at 1000$ and up. I’m not a extreme experienced Welder at all, but with my experiences i found the Electronics grows even in low cost Sector much. A longterm Test while welding on my FEL in Steel shows, that thing can handle easily the promised 250A without problems just out of Light current one phase with 20A fused. It is also able to weld in flux core or even with Gas what i prefer. I just have to change the polarity ( connectors twisted) to get a good result in Welding Flux core. plus connector must be set to the Groundclamp and negative must be set to Gun. However i just work mostly only with CO2, what is the easiest available Gas in my Areal, i know it is not the best solution in Gas, but i can deal with. A CO2 bottle 8Kilo refill here is at 12$ and Corgon is a 8Kilo bottle 85$. 80km more to drive one way in difference is on top.

The welder I purchased was $160 USD at "Harbor Freight". It is the "Titanium 125A FluxCore". It is negative polarity and can not be changed, so I must use wires designed for negative polarity. I think the T11 is best suited for me. I don't know what they mean by "Down hand Only (large dia.)" or "Good Low Temperature Impacts" but I suspect that "Down hand" means no vertical or overhead use, and that "Low temperature" means it might work better in cool / cold weather. OldWorkHorse 3,045 #10330 Posted April 9, 2021 I started another project with this nice warm weather we are having, I started my other halfs "FlowahPowah" paint. Not so much a building project but more a paint and clean up project she's gonna do some hand painting once the new color is laid out. Also got some painting and metal hung on the 1257Heavy project! The 1257 had a nice old decal on the rear fenders so I saved that. Not sure if it's OG or not but seems it. 12

8ntruck 6,999 #10333 Posted April 10, 2021 Didn't do anything directly to the Horse, but I did cancel my anti-snow insurance. Drained the gas tank and ran the gas out of the carb on Mr 2 cycle Toro snowthrower. Parked him in the shed next to the Horse. I did pull the tube out of the flat Sears trailer tire. Found the leak in the tube, and it is patachable. I'll pick up a patch kit tomorrow. Repainting the wheel is not an option at the moment, as I left my angle grinder in Mo. Repainting will happen later. Got to get the trailer back into action for upcoming projects.

8ntruck 6,999 #10336 Posted April 10, 2021 Well, it looks pretty much complete and unmolested. That is probably a B&S twin engine. Know anything else about the machine? What is the asking price? When it was last run, does the engine roll over, is there compression,do the gear shift levers move, what does the oil and trany fluid look like, etc. These share many common parts with Wheel horses, so that is a plus.

I have Bernzomatic 8000, a 4000, and the one with the hose on it that I use for plumbing. Even with THREE torches (better half holding two, me holding the other and the rod) I couldn't really get it hot enough. I was able to deposit 'blobs' which I filed down and it's better than it was, but still not happy with it. Definitely need OxyAcetylene! Going to try with the welder run some beads and see what happens this weekend. Edited April 10, 2021 by Jeff-C175

Horse Newbie 7,069 #10345 Posted April 10, 2021 In a post up above I asked if any of you guys would mess with this Workhorse... I was not sure if I should have posted the question in " What have you done to your Horse", because it wasn't "my Horse"- yet... Well now it is...it followed me home ! Again, I'll ask, "does this look like a machine worth messing with ?" Actually I have already messed with it. I did not want to pass on it for the price... came with a SD deck and a home made belly mount scraper blade. How many coins would you guys have paid ? PO said it ran up until 2013 when he thinks the fuel pump quit. 2

Not running but has spark and compression and no grader blade.

Picked it up because I'm pretty sure the scraper blade will fit my 1994 520H ( with some slight modifications to the scraper blade as far as attaching it to the hydraulic lift arm ). I got it for a grand total of $ FR.EE !
