Dumb question time.  Can this type of paint be bought in a rattle can?

Yes and no.   This is a two step process, base coat silver and top coat red and they can be purchased in spray cans. The trick is to obtain a spray pattern with consistent speed, distance and an overlap of 80% on EVERY PASS. any variation of speed, distance or overlap WILL show up in the final look and as difficult as this is with professional spray equipment I doubt that spray cans would yield a good result.

It is very hard to get paint to lay down like that out of a rattle can. Spray can paint is reduced a quite a bit and usually dries too fast to get this kind of finish. Or likes to run if you try to keep it wet enough to lay down. I'm not saying that it can't be done, it's just challenging.

I was using VHT Grabber Green on a lawn mower deck in my driveway. It came out of the can, and dried before it hit the deck. Looked as though someone threw a handful of very fine sand at the paint. It was a mess. Took me a bit ti figure out what was happening.

For me, spray cans never do. With any kind of paint.

WHX??

Seems Madge @AMC RULES has rattle canning down to a fine art.

First tractor I restoed I used all rattle cans and it actually came out decent. After many shows and bouncing around in trailers and dropping in a furrow and just general wear and tear she now has the scuffs and nicks of a worker but that's ok. There's no way to avoid that unless you put the tractor in a bubble.

Nice thing about rattle canning is you get some imperfections some sanding and another go at it comes out better. Also touching up so it does have it's pros.

Yes on the SC-BC02, the UK-11 will need to mixed with activator (4 parts paint to 1 part activator) or it will not dry.

Ok thanks.. I CRS about doing that on the hub caps. She is going to paint the horse head silver then red. The wheel rim just silver with maybe a pinpoint of black on the lug nuts. Yes it has that much detail!  I got her a whole slew of artists brushes to practice with.

Will have to be real careful as this center is like NOS and like the wheel they don't exactly fall from the sky! I don't think Glen Petit makes them.

Best to use a clear coat top coat with pearl, it will get list in the color coat.

It's been something like 25 years since I've mixed paint. Back then there were some of the better artist putting the powdered Pearl into an opaque coat over the top of colors and then even adding a different powder color into the clear coat.

I know some of you are well aware that the lay down depends on which direction the gun is going and pressures etc.

Folks used to do checkered flags with ghost Pearl being sprayed two different directions and you could see the difference even though it was all the same color in the same gun just, sprayed a few days apart...

After putting it off for a couple years, I sent my hydraulic lift cylinder to Lowell to be rebuilt. Got it installed over the weekend and now it doesn't look like the Exxon Valdez has been parked in my garage!! A little oil goes a long way! Changed the oil, mounted the deck and the C160 is ready to go!! :)

That's great and all but now how are you going to lubricate your garage floor??

That's his reflection in the hood. I've never been able to get that kind of finish, from a rattle can.7327.jpeg.333409f44329e83e6aace6c36102ed14.jpeg7326.jpeg.e3fa053139feabda6fce7f6424199371.jpeg

This car didn't have a top, or a left rear corner panel on it, when I saw it.

Let you guys in on the joke ....last year  plow day Dan and I were adjusting a plow that @pullstartbrought and someone suggested some anti seize on the adjuster threads.  I handed a bottle to Dan who graciously applied it generously to the part that often serves as a carry handle. Did you have gloves on when you picked it up Kev?!?! :hilarious:Prolly some pics somewhere in the plow day thread!

Funny thing, is one of Ryan’s boys grabbed ahold of it first!  He was a mess and a half, even after I pilfered 159 of Uncle Jim’s rags!

Got a little seat time shuttleing some furniture and sewing supplies to and from the lake house.

Had to add air to one of the trailer tires when I started, and 4 trips back and forth, maybe 400 yards total, the tire was flat and one bead was off the rim.  Looks like the tube got a leak.  The wheel and tire are on the bench. Got to break the other bead off of the wheel, dismount the tire and investigate what is going on.  Might even end up wire brushing the wheel and repainting it.  With the fresh paint, I could try going tubeless again.

After searching a bit I found (on the Lincoln Electric site) that the GS means :  General , Single Pass

It seems that it takes companies YEARS to get their wire evaluated by whomever does the evaluation so they invented this "General" class that basically means nothing.

It seems that with the -G you don't know what you're getting!

Jeff,

I am far from any kind of expert on the situation with what type of wire to use and when to use it. It is important to note that there is flux core wire that is designed to be used with a shielding gas, and type to be used without shielding gas. when I ran my harbor freight flux core machine I picked up some Lincoln flux core wire and it ran so much better with less splatter and more control of the weld.

Now days when I fill up my gas at my local supplier, I will talk to the guys there and let them know what I am up to, then I run the wire that was recommended for the job at hand, so I cant realy speak to all the numbering and labeling of wire. but I will say you will be happy if you stay away from the harbor freight wire.  hope that helps.

Well dragged the plow out that I got with the 875. It seems to be lacking a few pieces but it would work as is. The lever to pull the pin and turn the plow is hand made and welded to the frame. That means you have to turn the plow blade by hand and it also makes it difficult to install. Not positive this is the right plow frame for this tractor. When I lined it up the lever seems to be real close to the foot pedal. If I move the bar on the back of the plow frame the lever would be in front of the foot pedal. Photo of the tag on it. Supposed to be bringing the tractor to a friends house. I am not 100% sure the engine is shot, but if I was a betting man I would bet that it is. I would also bet that the rear end and rest of the tractor is good. I have a good running 8hp Briggs engine I was thinking of trying to install on it. Most likely I think I will sell it...... Do you think its better untouched or engine swapped with Briggs engine?

If you were to get it running with the Briggs, but keep things un-hacked and include the Kohler, it would likely bring more coin than selling it not running.  That’s just my :twocents-twocents:
