What have you done to your Wheel Horse today?

Recommended Posts

OldWorkHorse

Made use of this nice warm Maine day to do some metal work on the 1257Heavy project. Some cracks and welds from the PO needed to be fixed or re done and filled some holes where lights were mounted and filled in the lift handle slot since won't be using that. Not bad better if my gas welder wasn't down but not bad for gasless 🤷‍♂️

@OldWorkHorse

Looks good Steve.

Grind and reweld as needed.

That'll certainly get the structure back for you.

Still loving this mid mount grading blade!

Unfortunately, hit a snag. She won’t start hot. 🤨

Time for diagnostics.

I’ve been doing a quick search and it seems it’s discontinued. Any universal covers that would fit?

a wanted ad here in the classifieds might help.  Maybe @richmondred01 or @Ed Kennell might have some spares, among others?

A 16 takes a bigger air filter.

Others from some of the big twins will work as well.

Pop an ad on our own want ads and if no results within a day or 3 call Lincoln at A to Z.

What are you looking for ? Just the air filter cover? On my C-161, because of the bad engine mounts, the plate that holds the cover and filter to the carb cracked. I got the smaller cover from k&b horse parts. I might still have other cover, but not the plate.

Tuneup

A lathe is the biggest and best toy of all the big boy toys - full stop as the Brits say. Welder second IMO. There's a welder in my immediate future...

I got the 48SD on the saw horses and, after pulling 2 of 3 arbors and finding the center pulley jammed and slightly damaged, decided that the 42SD that is perfectly fine will be my go-to mower on the 516 this year. The 48 is going to be fully restored. The pullies and bearings I have sitting ready will have to wait for grinding, welding, painting and labeling.

Now, shall I not cut the center pulley off and just support the center of the deck and hit that blasted arbor with a 10lb sledge? I am tempted...how do we get these jammos off?! The center did not come with the wheel puller - the threads pulled right out. Little bugger.
