Ripped the broken sloppy pin out of my raider 12. Picked up a replacement on eBay and it’s MUCH MUCH tighter. She’s back on all 4s again.

Got 'em. Didn't fit, head of wrench too big, bolt too close to mount!  Did work for the big bolt though, it was those 1/4-20 bolts that were the issue.  And they were eslock so had to turn them with the wrenches all the way to the end!

 

The other three were easy though.

 

The  new one going back in was much easier,  I could fit the ratcheting box wrenches because the rubber mount was not in the way and the holes on the mounts are threaded, not nut and bolt like the old ones.

Your post reminded me of a set of metric Craftsman wrenches that I have that are a semi-open jaw design and you can turn a bolt and sort of slip past the head of it without even taking the wrench off. I'm going to see if I can order some in standard size. The part number for the 11 mm is 47953, just as a search reference.

I know which ones you mean, those are nice.

 

These probably would have worked and the swivel would have helped

 

 

The set that I have is the type that is two plates with the mech sandwiched between them.  (Craftsman) They're rather bulky but in most cases work fine.  Got both SAE and metric at a garage sale MANY years ago for a song.  I don't sing too well so they charged me a little extra...   I've seen ones that are much smaller, maybe SK?

Had to have some fun and try out the new tires today. Brought the 315's deck down to the shed for winter after 3 weeks of repeated soaking with pb, wd40, marvel, fluid film, whatever else i had on hand. Going to play around with this a little bit more before i swap the new pump in

almost embarrassed to state this - not too long ago I was not aware of this type of wrench 

 

a couple of years ago I stumbled onto a few wrenches like this in a box of wrenches I got at a flea market 

 

initially I thought the previous owner had modified the wrenches

I got these as a gift many many moons ago. Metric only.  

As we expand our knowledge and ability to repair our own equipment we find certain situations where these wrenches would be handy. 

I'll be looking forward to having them in fractional sizes too.

I know someone on here had asked for details and pics when i start the pump swap. So here it is so far, trimmed the foot mount and clamped it to the subframe i built. Looks like itll line up good. I doubt ill need a tensioner as it doesn't have one now, but if i do i will put a spring loaded idler in of some sort.

I attempted to do a seal job on the trans of my 312-8 -. Only to come to the conclusion that some idiot welded the hubs on the axles.

  Have seen that here also...nice to know we do not have a monopoly on idiots.

 

Hope they just tacked the end of the axle to the hub

Those are some ugly welds, hope to get them off nicely and in one piece, cause i don't have excess to new (to me) hubs.

We did that same idea with “Steve” the C-81!

I did a bit of fine tuning on the replacement engine, had to chase out some holes in the block that are used on the 855, but apparently had nothing in them on the Raider. Took it for a little ride, then mounted the snowblower just for fun. It's missing the back-side idler, but it does work. In fact I can't get it to turn off. Even with the belt "disengaged" it is still tight enough to run the auger.
