What have you done to your Wheel Horse today?

Pullstart

Yeah we should be blue to get the belt to stop before moving to a clutch pulley :handgestures-thumbupright:

top support was underneath the top loop of the belt

Yepp.

I did a pulley swap on a tractor that I'm not sure had the right belt guard in the first place.

I riveted a "shelf" just under where the belt rode with the clutch OUT.

When the pedal was pushed in the belt would sink to the lower lip of the guard as it should and also the shelf I put in.

Worked slick.

less than 1/2 throttle

Notwithstanding start stop times an air-cooled engine Should be run at 3/4 or more especially when under load.

Looks like you may have somewhat of a belt stop there now??

That is the little guard attached to the clutch pulley yes. Not sure its function other than keeping the belt in line. I sure doesnt stop the belt at all.

It does if positioned right ...it is supposed to shove the belt forward.

Yes i agree but a lot of times im just moving a machine a few feet. Pulling it in or out of the shed. No need to rev it up to 3,000 rpms for a short trip like that. When i am working them they stay at full throttle all the time no less. Regardless a centrifugal clutch is not for me. You guys have been a huge help im confident i can have it driving by the weekend!

Oh, to have good young eyes like Jimbo.       Yes, that belt retainer/,stop should be rotated CW  so it just clears the belt when the clutch is engaged.      Then when it is disengaged, it will pinch the belt.    The bottom loop must be supported especially close to the engine drive pulley.

Great thank you that helps a ton

@Jhook  I've played the belt and pulley game with two machines, invented my own vocabulary and threw half my tools across the shop before figuring it out. A small tab near the engine pulley and below the trans pulley can work, but belt length is EXTREMELY critical, and then when you're done you have a machine with no belt guard and although it looks cool, just aint the safest. These guys hit the nail on the head- something running along the outer edges of the belt, mainly the bottom half, and you should be good.

While I'm here, as for 'what have you done to your Wheel Horse today?' Not as much as i'd like to, that dang thing called responsibility getting in the way lately. Its overrated:lol:

I did, however, FINALLY get the little emulsion tube/rod freed up in the 655 carb so it idles and performs correctly. Cut the grass again yesterday. Still cant get over just how capable that puny little 6hp is. The more I run it, the more I love it. Dont think this one will be leaving the stables anytime soon.

Is it a Kohler? Heck no, but really starting to believe the only thing that truly sucks about a Tekky is that stupid carb design. We battled that issue back in the day when racing karts- very few engine issues, tons of carb issues.

The plus side of something like this is it clearly displays your Superior intellect by the ability to create your own new set of words.

Another plus side is that your toolbox is quite a bit lighter which makes it easier to move around.

Now that half your tools are on the other side of the shop it would be a good time to consider reorganizing and decide for yourself if the toolbox should be where the tools are or the tools should be where the toolbox is.

BEHIND THE DASH... When I purchased this 1967 WH 1277 it had sat for several years. I cleaned out the mice nest behind gas tank and changed the ignition. After some other minor repairs I got it started. Now I wanted to drive it. Unfortunately, every time I disengaged brake to move forward it stalled. Throttle was rusted in place. So I’m replacing throttle, cig lighter, some type of red light and accessory switch. The red light rusted on for life I think,

Just so you know, on that ignigtion switch, the  battery amperage  is passing directly through to the starter without a solenoid. With a gas tank in front of it, a spark could be bad if you spilled gas while refueling and then started the tractor. At the minimum, keep it clean and possibly a rubber shield is present on some tractors.  There are guys on this forum that know more than me, so maybe they will have more advice.I will say that a tractor i bought had that switch and it threw smoke on the first start after sitting for years

you also obviously have the  " v " side of the belt on the flat / side of the center  pulley , think of a snow blower set up . pete

Yes i had just thrown the belt on. Played with it on both sides of the pulley. Another member suggested removing the idler all together which im going to do next. I wasn't sure that was the proper way to use that pulley but omly ran it for a few minutes like that

JHOOK, kind of what I was thinking , just doing a mock up and seeing how things might work , you also have a lot of options as far as what you want it to be. noting the back of dash area , you might take advantage of the opportunity to use a 2 bolt flange bearing on the steering column , done that on my 3 horses, very solid and smooth . you could keep the look of the horse , with updated changes at any problem area . my 82 c85- magnum looks stock , but its tweaked just about any area you look at , I like that combo. wish you good luck on your build project , pete

On the upper end of the steering column? About 5 inches below the steering wheel you would install a bearing?

Changed the engine oil and the rear gear oil! (Also retrieved the rear end plug from the bottom of old engine, old gear oil, and who knows what....:angry-soapbox:) and also finished running new wiring.
