What have you done to your Wheel Horse today?

Doing some maintenance work today on two of my RJs !  Putting newer idler pulley with better bearings on one.  A new drive belt And making some more RJ belt cover spacers from the originals from one of the RJs.    I measured 1 7/16 long and used some aluminum tubing for my other RJ project tractor. Also painting my seat and putting a seat lift block to keep the seat off the fenders!  Filling an unknown bolt hole that appeared out of nowhere also.  This Covid quarantine has done no favors to my seat - if you catch the drift!

Had an unusual thing happen went to change the oil filter on the Wheel a Matic and as I was spinning off the RED WH FILTER  the stud that it mounts to started coming off with it!  I almost didn't notice it. It has a hex but with it all the way back in you can't get a wrench or socket on it due to a boss in the casting. What to do? I ended up using a 3/4" heater hose on the threads and grabbed the hose with pliers and tighten'd it enough so I can't take it out with my hands.

 

 

Then I went to a WH owners 2nd most favorite job removing the hitch pin. I want dual hitches on this. The pin was stuck in the slot hitch and both ends of the pin were peened over. I buzzed down the side with the least peening and then whacked it with my IR air hammer and it moved.

 

 

Best $200 I ever spent on a tool. That air hammer has cashed more checks than I can count. Finished driving it out with the smaller punch.

This afternoon I heard a little commotion outside the shop. Quite frankly is sounded like a stampede. Went out to investigate and to my surprise I found  part of my herd surrounding my trailer. They all wanted to get onto the trailer because they just knew it would be headed to the "Big Show" tomorrow morning. I had to break the news to them that the show won't be held this year.        

While they were out of their stalls I took advantage of the opportunity to clean the barn floor.

Kept my horse's mind off of the big show by playing pick up sticks.  Finally cleaning up some litter that came down in storms a few weeks back.  Actually, was a couple of trees on the neighbor's property.  I just picked up two trailer loads and a log that came down on my side of the line.  Missed the shed where the horse sleeps by about 8'!

What I did today is decide to throw out this M10 Engine, with under 300 hours

 

Replace it with a K 16 HP engine.

Well finished up the 48" deck I been working on. One of my packages arrived from @Vinylguy  arrived so I peeled placed them on the deck. Very pleased with how the deck came out. I just have to sharpen the blades and put them back on and the deck is finished. Tractor is fighting me. I tried fixing the brakes today. I cant seem to figure it out. If I tighten the brake far enough that it will stop the tractor I cant engage the parking brake. If I loosen it enough to where the parking brake lever will catch it wont brake......ugh. Looks to have enough meat on the brake pad. Maybe I am missing something. Any suggestions? I will add some photos.

@D_Mac That deck looks beautiful!!!

With the brakes, I see the adjustment on the brake band looks like it's at max. I don't think you can engage the parking brake when the band linkage is at max.
If that's true, then I would think there's a linkage failure earlier in the chain. Maybe a bent rod? Seems like a strange problem. There's no other adjustment earlier in the chain if I'm not mistaken.

Thank you @echris about the deck, I am happy with how it came out. As far as the brakes I cant figure it out either. If I let them out far enough so I can get the Parking Brake to engage the brake band is to loose and wont stop the machine. The pedal was way forward and I bent back the corner of the floor board to be in its right position but it seems pretty weak at the corner so I dont know how long it will last. Might have to put a little plate there or something. here is the pedal before and after.

It seems like you have two problems.

1) The pedal stop is/was not working because of the weak footpad,
2) The brakes/parking brake.

I don't think that pedal position problem would seriously affect the brakes. It sounds silly, but if you push the brake pedal all the way, the brakes should engage. Regardless of initial pedal position.

Does anyone have an OD for the brake drum? I wonder if the brake drum is severely worn? There's really no other adjustment aside from the brake band. And even if other linkages were worn severely, I can't see how it would it would affect the brakes so bad.

Yeah the brakes worked even when the pedal was way forward. I dont think there is any adjustment with the lever under the console? With the pedal fully pressed, and the brake band adjusted so it stops the tractor, that lever with the teeth on it is way in front of that " U " shaped piece that sets the brake. Any adjustments in there?

Put some sweet new skins on Poppy the 552 with the double belt S/G K161.

 

The front hubs need a bit of fixin’ up to fit right, but that’s an active project.

The veri drive on my RJ35 was shot so I had a new hub made, slightly oversized in diameter then the pulleys were bored to fit the hub. Now it’s good as new!

Did the mowing today.  Midway through, the PTO drive belt came off.  Not sure why.  I put it back on, and everything was fine.  

 

I did notice that the PTO pulley does not look like it is lined up with the mule drive pulley.  Looks like the PTO pulley is about 1/8 inch too far to the right.  Probably ought to look into why this is.  I've never had the engine out or the mule drive off. 

 

I'll check the alignment of the engine and transmission pulleys.  That should give some clue as to what is going on.

they’re getting an inch and a quarter slug pressed through them and welded on and drilled out to make my own front hubs.  I think the set screw area is a perfect spot for a grease zerk
