ebinmaine 67,571 #730 Posted May 28, 2018 We finished up assembly on the Patriot Horse this morning ( See the restoration section for more on that. ) ...And put it right to work. We moved some cut/split wood out of the forest. I found even with fluid filled tires I was slightly lacking for traction in the rough forest so I added these "other brand" wheel weights. 50 pounds each. Seemed like it helps. Tractor now weighs well over 900 pounds without my extra ballast. My next/current project is the trailer in the pics. I'm moving the axle back to put more weight on the tractor and also to facilitate easier dumping. You might want to consider cutting off some of the wheel weight mounting bolts and putting an acorn nut on them. I have a couple of scars on my leg from tangling with wheel weight bolts. Tractor boy 239 #736 Posted May 29, 2018 Changed the oil in the 312. The Engine oil looked like tar while the tranie oil looked like carmal sauce. Also I have a couple questions. 1. Both drain plugs had rust on the threads of the plug. Is that normal? 2. The plugs were extremely clean minus the rust. I thought that this is weird considering the respective dirtyness of the oil. 3. The book says the transmission should take 3 quarts of oil. Mine only took 2 and that was after draining the transmission and letting it sit for a couple of hours. 4. I’m about to tear into the blade on the dozer blade. Put the front up a bit to help drainage. Anyone thirsty ????? You should be in pretty good shape as far as the amount of drainage at the plug if that's what you did. It does come very highly recommended by quite a few people to put a couple of quarts of diesel fuel or kerosene. (Diesel is cheaper.) ....in the transmission and drive it around in s turns or figure eights to get all the gears completely covered. Makes a great flush. Leaves much much less residue in the transmission. Particularly nasty situations you could do this multiple times. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Lane Ranger 10,968 #747 Posted June 2, 2018 (edited) Changed gear oil in transmission for the 702 Wheel Horse yesterday which I will be taking as one of three tractors to the Big Wheel Horse Collector's Show in Pennsylvania. Also taking my 854 and my RJ that I redid two years ago. Got the RJ all ready to go yesterday. Used the 701 Wheel Horse with my 9 tine cultivator (mix of Danish and Wheel Horse shovel tines) on the garden this am . Worded fantastic and the half inch rain we had last night made the work pretty easy. I also got the solenoid back up and working so it now starts with a key. Hard to keep up with the grass right now. What i really need right now is a 7/8 OD x 3/4ID steel bushing about three inches long to make the Predator work well in the 520H. I wonder if Grainger or Fastenall sells them?
