Trying to get the 414-8 running after the carb rebuild.

DOGGONE WALBRO CARB!

When I disassembled it, I saw no clip on the float needle.  I figured I MUST have lost it.  Upon reassembly, it's not flowing properly.  As you can see by the photo with the old needle, it appeared to be the setup with the spring.  That needle & spring allowed ZERO flow with the float down.  Blowing into the gas intake was a complete block.

Using the other needle and the typical needle "hanger" results in very restricted flow with the float down.

do I completely remove the clip and let it "float" freely, the way it appeared to be?  I have never seen that before.Yes, I know I can adjust the float, but A) that shouldn't be necessary, and B) I don't have the specs.

As much as I hate to mess with the float height since it worked before, I guess I'll play with it.  I found this online:

  Quote

For a 1989 Kohler M8 engine with a Walbro carburetor, the float height should be approximately 1/8 inch (3.2 mm) from the top of the carburetor body.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:

  • Engine Model: Kohler M8 (Magnum 8)
  • Carburetor Type: Walbro
  • Float Height: Approximately 1/8 inch (3.2 mm) from the top of the carburetor body
  • Important Note: This is a general guideline. Refer to your specific engine's manual for the exact specifications, as there can be slight variations between models.

Giving up on carb for the night.  Tried both needles.  Tried to adjust float (not really designed to adjust.) Still not getting flow. Maybe a little, but not enough to keep it running after squirting some gas in the carb.

Aaaaaaarrrrggghhhhh!

Changed oil in 854 yesterday and did some touch up painting where she had some working wear!    1 1/4 quarts  -and I put in 1 1/2 by mistake thinking I remembered how much.   Went back to the chart and had to take out  some to get it right.  I have a chart but apparently have not memorized it!

I changed oil in the 314-8 too !

We had 3 3/4 inches of rain yesterday and early this am.

o flooding here at home but my sale I installed between my neighbor's house and mine worked great again!

I see a Merkur XR4TI in the background. They are quite unique. I used to have one many years ago.

Yes, that is my 85 XR that I totally rebuilt a few years ago.

It was my daily driver car all summer for several years until I retired.

It now just gets used for local cruise nights and car shows.

Got a break in the monsoon this afternoon, so I hooked the roller to the 310-8 for a couple hours of seat time.  I should have used the heated cab 520...it was a cold ride.

The new Carlisle Turfs worked great.

No way Mike.    Those are mud balls  that fall of the horses hooves and wheels of the wagon when they turn in my yard.   I just roll them down .    104_0838.JPG.693aef197f45aa3225124e16e121a331.JPG

When i'm lucky, they leave a few roadapples for the garden and to remind me of Jay.

That's awesome.

Like that bigger wagon.

I've seriously considered making one from two Wheelhorse frames.
