Trying to get the 414-8 running after the carb rebuild.

DOGGONE WALBRO CARB!

When I disassembled it, I saw no clip on the float needle.  I figured I MUST have lost it.  Upon reassembly, it's not flowing properly.  As you can see by the photo with the old needle, it appeared to be the setup with the spring.  That needle & spring allowed ZERO flow with the float down.  Blowing into the gas intake was a complete block.

Using the other needle and the typical needle "hanger" results in very restricted flow with the float down.

do I completely remove the clip and let it "float" freely, the way it appeared to be?  I have never seen that before.Yes, I know I can adjust the float, but A) that shouldn't be necessary, and B) I don't have the specs.

As much as I hate to mess with the float height since it worked before, I guess I'll play with it.  I found this online:

For a 1989 Kohler M8 engine with a Walbro carburetor, the float height should be approximately 1/8 inch (3.2 mm) from the top of the carburetor body.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:

  • Engine Model: Kohler M8 (Magnum 8)
  • Carburetor Type: Walbro
  • Float Height: Approximately 1/8 inch (3.2 mm) from the top of the carburetor body
  • Important Note: This is a general guideline. Refer to your specific engine's manual for the exact specifications, as there can be slight variations between models.

Giving up on carb for the night.  Tried both needles.  Tried to adjust float (not really designed to adjust.) Still not getting flow. Maybe a little, but not enough to keep it running after squirting some gas in the carb.

Aaaaaaarrrrggghhhhh!

This…I installed the 3 dollar Harbor Freight reflectors. They fit where the old ones were perfectly.
