I can't find my floor. I know it's there because I don't fall through into the abyss, I just can't find it.

There's something I haven't heard in a LONG time!

Younguns' don't know what that is.

Never heard the term so I searched it.

We didn't call it that.

It was a Ringer. Or... in New England speak  -  Ringah.

A mangle is a big ironing machine, used for sheets & such before the days of permanent press.

Called a mangle because if you weren't careful, that's what would happen to your hands & arms.

:text-yeahthat:my grand parents had one of those in their basement.  I even got to try it out once.  Successfully- none of my fingers are flat.

When I looked it up I knew immediately what it was for.

And how dangerous they certainly can be.

As kids we had a sort of third set of grandparents. They had a Ringer in their second home. I definitely don't recall ever being allowed to mess with it.

Probably a good thing.

@Stepney may even have one today.

Mangles / Ringers were popular back when OSHA was still a small town in Wisconsin... :D

Had one in our basement growing up. It was Mom's exclusive domain and a "No Touch!!!" Item... :angry-nono:

There's an old double tub Dexter with a Ringer still in the basement at the farm.  Used to get some of the water out before hanging on the line.

Amish neighbor has a wringer washer, the "ringer" didn't waste the baby's thumb, the belts and pulleys underneath did it.  I spent all day running the family around Lancaster County to find a quack doctor, that wasn't at the horse show, to get the kid fixed up with a cardboard cast.

Kind of a Youngun’ here, after reading the later posts, I do now. I learn something new every time I get on this forum, tractor related or not.

Didn't do much to the WH today, busy moving a TV and entertainment center to a different wall, replacing an outlet that was broken and had arc marks, and installing a 3 "outlet".network jack for the TV-related electronics.

I did, however, install the shifter knobs and battery hold-down I ordered.  Seat bumpers & gas strut to be installed when some installation hardware arrives.

Then, HOPEFULLY, I can get to that carb.

Greetings, I'm getting a new wheel horse in April sometime when a friend of mine goes to Virginia to pick it up when he gets his new car. It's free. I have no pictures to identify it though, but I do know it has a cast iron hood, and it has a sickle bar mower. He claims the tractor is all original and intact. Any help identifying it would be greatly appreciated. I believe it's an RJ of some sort.

If the sickle bar mower is front mounted and the cast iron is a front weight rather than the hood it could be an RJ.                :wwp:

I presume you mean the Wheel Horse is free, not your friend's new car.             :ychain:

You would be correct, and sadly, I do not have any photos. But I believe the actual hood is cast iron.
