At least it’s not as bad as the last attempt. May be time to see if someone has one to sale. Installed new LED head and tail lights. Going to give it a good workout with the leaf sweeper to ensure everything is okay before mounting the snow blade, weights and chains. Where can I get the LED headlights? They look great! WNYPCRepair 1,918 #22281 Posted November 12 I put my snowblower on a couple of weeks ago. It’s a single stage blower for the XI series. I have a two stage but it is just to heavy for this old man to drag around. I had to make a connector for the chute rotation. It worked fine, but I wasn’t very impressed by how well it worked. so I dug around in some of my junk and found a power seat motor. So I made a new shaft to hook to the gear that rotates the chute. Ran the wiring, mounted a switch, and then tested it this morning. Works great. Now I think I’ll think about a cab. IMG_5935.MOV 3

I can suggest that a seat motor is not weatherproof and now that you have it working you take some time to be sure that this one is protected from snow/sleet/freezing rain and all that other “lake effect” wet stuff you folks seem to thrive on 😁

Hopefully I have it waterproofed enough. I sealed all the wiring connectors with silicone, covered the entire motor with tightly wrapped electrical tape, covered that with a nitrile glove, and then found something to use as a cover. Hopefully it all keeps it dry. 2

We till in the first 3 of 4 loads between mine and the neighbor's garden, then they go to the curb for collection and hauled to a compost site. My bag holds 38 cu ft (285 gallon) of mulched leaves, so that's about the max we can till in.
8ntruck 6,998 #22288 Posted November 14 (edited) Tasked Morgan, the 14-8, with leaf cleanup duty today. Did a bit of leaf collection with him yesterday, but had to quit early due to an empty gas can and a broken weld on a cross brace in the leaf sweeper. Got gas on the way back from walking the dog, and welded the brace back on the sweeper. An afternoon of lawn sweep toing and leaf burning ensued. About 3/4 done with leaf disposal for this year. Supposed to rain tomorrow, then be dry for the weekend. Hopefully, I'll be able to finish up leaf disposal for this year. What the worms don’t turn into compost will help keep the soil moist and slowly turn to compost and feed the soil just pull aside the leaves to plant your plants. No need to till. If you keep 6-8” of mulch on your garden all year, you can plant without tilling. After a few years the soil will be so rich and loose you can dig it easily with your hands. google Ruth Stout method or back to Eden method. I have been doing it for a few years, though I had to take a break the last 5 years, as I was on the road constantly. 3
kpinnc 11,977 #22290 Posted November 14 (edited) Built one for my FIL a couple years ago. I don’t have pics with the hoses attached. Bin is from an old Kubota system to make dumps easy. He picked up 10 loads today with it. Gotta move the hoses around one of these days, move them to the center so the hose flexes less- but so far it works great. The vacuum works off the PTO as well. His only complaint has been hitting the hitch with his knee when not using the bagger. It’s all held on with a Reese hitch, so one pin and it drops off, but he tends to leave it on year round. I got lucky with this place that the amount of leaves is so small that I don’t have to get them up anymore. My FILs home is much like where I lived previously, with multiple giant willow oak trees in his yard. They cover two acres in ankle-deep leaves in the fall. Way too much to mulch. They have to be picked up.

The fairly high winds lately, and no big trees dropping them close to my house, cleaned what was there off well.

MainelyWheelhorse 421 #22296 Posted November 14 (edited) I put the 308 to work today pushing back a woodpile. Definitely needs a solid link and a counter weight/loaded tires and possibly AG or something grippier. The turf savers were iffy traction wise. Overall it worked pretty well. Better than doing it by hand. Edited Friday at 10:07 PM by MainelyWheelhorse 4

It definitely would have been nice to have made money by the hour on that one. My FIL had several ideas as did I for making this work. He had an older gentleman tell us both that it was impossible to make it work this way for any decent period of time, so we simply had to prove the guy wrong. Two years and dozens of loads of leaves later- she’s still working!
MainelyWheelhorse 421 #22299 Posted Friday at 10:14 PM Today, I did more pushing back the woodpile with the 308. After initially starting like I did yesterday, I put chains on the rear tires and it made a huge difference in traction. The 8 horse Kohler on the 308 would probably break something before it would stop pushing. As long as the sticks were relatively loose I had no issues. But once the wood hooked together it was a brick wall.
