Changed gear oil in both my 315 and 416  8's last week - today the 315 got new front wheel bearings all around - checked they were starting to get sloppy . For the trans changes put Lucas oil in both - this weekend gonna jack up the 416  check those bearings - many years ago plowing with the C 101 front wheel came off - bearing went out made a total mess of the spindle - made the best of it with new bearings until the big show picked up a new used one - now I check bearings periodically - if I find slop in 1 or 2 change all 4 . Not going through the spindle mess again - have a blade on the 315 all year and a tall chute on the 416 4 months a year so both are carrying weight in the front .

 

Can anyone point out a thread for upgrading the front wheels/axles for weight  ? I'm curious about the process

I have liquid filled tires on 3 wheel horses and on my big tractor and there are no negatives that I can see.

Better traction, more stable.

Worked on the 308 for a bit today. I peeled off the old hood stickers and got it ready for paint. I’m also waiting on some Amazon landscaping headlights.

I didn't to it my horses, bur for them plus some other benefits. The 520h was used in process. I put up a 10x20 "garage in a box"  aka the the "tractor shed", cheena branded from the jungle website. For $269, I'm not disappointed. it will provide shelter for the 310, 520, as well as other out door stuff. took 6 cinder blocks, buried them halfway ish, plus filled back with local soil to top, red clay, packed tightly, then liquid nails a peice of 3/4 treated plywood coated  w/ Thompson on all sides, to make a "pad" for the air compressor. its stout, tight, elevated, should last for the a while. i get to move 2 tractors, 2 generators, shovels, rakes ladders. rims/tires, all kinds of stuff out there. working on running  a dedicated 20 amp GFCI circuit on  exterior shop wall there. inside tractor shed, 3 amazon  single tube led plug in 4' lights, and air compressor on electrical load, setup to terminate w/ male plug in end. I will run a 15' 10/3 outdoor cord to connect them, shed sits 34 inches to the side of shop. all of this has been done using existing material other then the garage in a box. none of it is perfect, but it will give a few years of shelter for my stuff, outside of my shop, plus the noisy a** compressor out of the shop. That is its own blessing. A proper pole barn lean-to, w/ a small walled in section to store my 2 prized WH's, walk behind mower, and air compressor, (small huh?) will come eventually..., maybe..., i hope so...? pics to come

Today the 257-H got new shoes mounted. I received all my parts from scAmazon & I also got my replacement rim & Transmission cooling fan from A-Z Tractor. A-Z Tractor is a Great place for parts with excellent service. I am Really happy with finding that resource & I highly recommend them. Anyway, The new tires went on pretty easily & I have to reinstal  the transmission tomorrow. I had to remove it to get the tire off the left side which was a real chore but it is done now. Gonna put my new drive belt on & see how things go. Hopefully it was just a low fluid situaation with the Hydro pump transmission. I will know more tomorrow. Also I found a C-145 with a snow Blade & mowing deck for $200 so I will be going to get that tomorrow evening. On my way to growing a "Herd" I can hardly wait. gonna get some zzzzzs for now

Here in Indiana also.  We had 5 very large ones in the front "side" yard that were almost dead and dropping limbs. They were within range of the power lines, so the power company came in and cut them down for free a few years ago, and left most of the wood for me to cut up and split for firewood. I still have enough left for several years, just need to get back to cutting and splitting again soon. I've usually done the splitting by hand but my shoulder has been bothering me so I'll probably rent a splitter. I don't use enough or want to bother selling any to justify buying a splitter. Wish I had one I could just attach to one of these WH tractors sitting around watching the whole process. :greetings-waveyellow:

Here's what I did on my 1974 C160-8 Cinnamon Horse.  

 

Note:

I have NOT YET added a 90⁰ brace as some of the later model HD spindles had. Still a future plan. 

 

 

These front wheels are 12" trailer wheels ordered from etrailer.

The hubs are 2,000 lb axle rated trailer hubs. Same bolt pattern as the rears.  5 x 4.5.

I bought a pair of the least expensive trailer axle stubs I could find.

As you can see I cut the "trailer side" off. 

Had a friend with a lathe drill 3/4" holes (3" deep??)

I used JB Weld to fasten the drilled trailer stub on to the stock Wheelhorse spindle. 

 

I know this Pic is a little tough to make out. 

The seal rides on the plain steel part where the stub axle was cut off.

More work on the 308 after work. It’s a good 10 foot IH Red paint job, The tractor is a worker and was pretty rough to start with. I’m going to take off the panel on the side with the lift lever to paint as it has small stuff to mask off.

:auto-swerve:Well, Just got home from a road trip:auto-car: to pick up this :woohoo: 1980 C-145  with a deck & :occasion-snowman: snow blade. The guy said he paid $100 :laughing-rolling: to have a shop diagnose it & it needs a tuneup.... points & condenser,,,the P.O. was really sad to see it go & funny thing was, he actually said this, :scared-shocked:  " send me pictures as you get it going again & I will probably by it back from ya..." :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rofl:    little does he know :violin: that's probably Never :rant2: gonna happen because :soapbox: 1 I really do Not want to sell 1 of these to someone who has No Idea how to take care of & or repair it. These are a piece of History much like classic cars but another realm....

2 I doubt he will like the new Price when I am done nursing it back to health :auto-ambulance: & the amount of time & labor involved to do anything like this weather it's a '69 Mustang or a  45 year old lawn mower.... :soapbox:  & to those of us who Know, this aint just some old lawnmower. ok.... stepping off the soapbox now....

  The Tune Up Should be easy enough as I was raised on that system. Gonna order that & a few other things tonight, The 257-H will get attention tomorrow. I am super :handgestures-thumbup: stoked to have found this smokin' deal... the blade needs a few pieces of the necessary hardware but that won't hold Moo-Wah back.... The fender & seat are in the back of the truck. I didn't know the fender was plastic but ok maybe I can find a steel 1 somewhere.... the seat yeah that's gonna get replaced with a really nice 1 at some point. Just super happy to have another & a start on my "herd". Here are some pictures for All enjoy as well. More tomorrow....

Been working here and there on my 520-8 restoration and I had brand new stewart warner gauges but I guess they weren’t very good at cutting the holes out at the factory lol so I ended up buying used 520H gauges because they obviously combated the issue with a small diameter face ring. I toyed with the idea of cutting the holes out slightly larger to fit them properly but from the best I can find put the bezel is pretty much specific to the 520-8 so I don’t want to mess it up. I thought about a 518H bezel but the collar around the steering shaft is totally different where as this one uses a bolt on style much like the 520H

 Not much got done in the way of Wheel Horse or Minibikes today :violin: .... the Tree guys Finally showed up as that is a Huge  Booming Business 'round these parts about now since we had a couple tornadoes, several Severe & I mean Severe Storms with >80+mph winds thiis year with lots of tree damage everywhere. We had our share of it as well. I have another couple hobbies that benifit from tree damage. I bought the Bowyer's Bible & started learning to make Bows (Archery) I also carve my own Axe, Hatchet, Hammer, Knife & other tool handles. My Dad has a nice Lathe & makes a lot of pens, Pepper Mills, Bowls & lots of other cool things. So we have quite a bit of Black Walnut, Ash, Elm & some Black Locust to keep us busy a while now. I had them just leave whatever they cut down where it dropped & I will cut it the way I want it. The rest is firewood. So I probably have another day or so of work out there before I can get really serious about the Horses.... I really thiMk the 'ol C-145 is growing on me & fast.... I just like the side shaft Kohler set up better than the vertical Kawasaki. I really prefer American Made EverySuff .... The biggest limb was an Elm & it shook the ground when it dropped. I would have loved to test out either of the WheelHorses dragging that thing.... 12' long 18" diameter according to the Sherrill Tree chart, that limb would weigh approx. 1,040 lbs. I thiMk the wheel horses would drag it on flat concrete But there is a huge slope & grass I had to drag it up with my Chevy 2500 & a chain. Anywho, lots of useless info on unfun things for today except for the unloading of the Snow Blade & the New to Moo-Wah C-145 from the trailer I rented  .... but here are a few more pictures of the beginning of my "Herd". There is a soon to be retired & sold off Craftsman Model 917 6 Speed sticking it's nosy nose in the pics....For the $50 I paid for it, it has been a pretty good machine with lots of old age woes (1995) that are too be expected.... I even have the headlights working on that thing.

 Anybody Know; Did the C=145s only come with plastic rear fenders? Or can I gaet a Steel 1 for It? I would really like to have a steel Fender or faring or what ever that is called... I have a Big piece of Diamond plate (6'X4') this would be an excellent excuse to get a plasma cutter & build a custom 1 complete with drink holder :coffee: .... That would look pretty Bad AZZ even if I do say so myself.... More to come soon

Yes they came with plastic fenders. We put steel fenders on my sons. His c161 also is getting steel fenders and the plastic one will go in storage.

Today on Wheelhorse corner… the painting is done for now. There’s new LED headlights on the 308 and I painted the guards for the 42”RD deck on the 312. The paint on the guards was peeling off. It’s not pretty, but I plan on going through the deck and fixing issues this winter.

@BBQVultureWings Amazon, I did a search for PAR 36 landscaping lights. I tried to get the cheapest ones with the best reviews I could. The ones I got were a two pack and a little over $22 with tax and prime shipping.

@BBQVultureWings  as with any electrical  improvement , would get some CONTRACTORS  3/8 electrical bolt on wire lugs , go from battery wire ground point , cleaned / dielectric  enhanced  to insure frame connection , then add a separate ground wire to your lighting , DO NOT COUNT ON EXISTING GROUND POINTS , that also replies to ENGINE COOLING TINS , known for rusty screw down points , like an  ALLEGATOR  CLIP ON TEST WIRE TO VERIFY AS i GO , INSURING / POWER / GROUND POINTS . have those  LED lights on my stuff , tail lights too ,very bright , also very little amp draw , just as it should be ,  pete

Not a bad idea.... Retired Electrician here. I did Primarily Inndustrial Process control work as well as Some commercial & the dreaded residential wiring (dreaded as it is really pretty boring repetitive work mostly lights, light switches & plugs....) I don't have too much trouble with electrical systems & I Certainly do Not know Everything either as there is Always something else to learn...  I haven't decided what all accessories or improvements will be added but I like the LEDs because they draw very little current & at 12V DC it can get to be an issue really fast with resistive loads like lights but the LED improvements in recent years have nearly eliminated that problem. By the way I would use NoAlox anti corrosion compound such as Ideal 30-030  or equivalent Rather than dielectric grease

Finally after being sidelined for almost 2 months with ankle and Achilles tendinitis was able to spend a little time working on the C175. Removed all the hoses and lift valve. Rebuilt the lift valve. Discovered the rear finder mounting bracket where it normally breaks was in need of welding. Have a friend who has a welding service and he’s going to stop by one evening to take care of it.
