@ebinmaine prompted me to put this up here. This is on a 36” geared RD deck but the principle is the same for the 42” belt RD.

I used ordinary stainless hardware--round headed hex socket screws with flanged nylock nuts

@Handy Don Oh, ok  it’s basically a flap that covers the outlet.

Yep. It’s only to corral the clippings a bit farther out from the deck and to redirect them downward. It also helps keep the acorns from flying too far

The mounting holes were already there in the deck housing. I used big box store vinyl cove base left over from a project--thankfully a decent color!

@Handy Don It was the same with that 42”RD. it almost looks like something did or could go there as the square holes for carriage bolts were already there. I’ll look around tomorrow as I wouldn’t be surprised if I’ve got the rubber inner tube/vinyl molding that could be used for that somewhere…

Yeah, a lot of us have wondered and speculated on this. There was a bolted-on extension from WH for one 36” belt RD that I came across, but I’ve never seen one for any other deck.

I urge you to be careful. As you begin to enjoy different attachments on your tractors, your subconscious will begin to want more and more of the cool stuff to hang on your tractor. It is a dreadful addiction.

Wheelhorseitis (among many other names) is a terrible condition. Only awareness can stop it.

This is how it starts. Next you’ll find yourself enjoying the smell of new tires and fresh paint. In the last stages, you’ll begin fabricating and modifying. That’s when you realize that the damage is done.

The only bummer to having lots of Tractors is maintaining the batteries and trying to keep the Mice out ....!

Yeah but fun to come up with ways around that.

@Handy Don Interesting… It’s almost like Wheelhorse/Toro was going to offer something to finish it but never got there.

@Rob R definitely, I have two cats who seem to keep that stuff at bay. There was only one instance within the last 10 years or so  I’ve had any mice get in.

@kpinnc yes, my father has come up with a few good ways to deter them. If I ever get any I’ll try some of those methods.

I grew up remembering my dad having Bultacos, Ossas, & Hodakas. He also had an El Bandito 360 that he used to race. He gave that one to my nephew.  Dad asked me 1st if it was OK.  My nephew is doing a no expense restoration on it. That model there was only about 700 made over 3yrs. I wanted the Bultaco he bought new so I ended up with the El Matador. It's a sentimental thing. The El Bandito he bought used. It was ridden hard from racing.

Here's a 36” Belt RD that’s listed in the classifieds and it has the metal “skirt” on the back

@Handy Don  Today, I finally got around to building the flap.  I went the length of the opening and 7 inches tall. It works well for the little I have used it. Rubber inner tube is what I used and stainless bolts lock washers and steel fender washers hold it on.

@Handy Don That looks pretty straightforward. I have access to metalworking equipment and that doesn’t look too difficult to fab up if my inner tube flap fails.

i use a strip of wall/floor base cove vinyl to attach as my deflector material for the 42 rd decks -- it has natural lip curve that works perfect - and i use the carriage bolts with rounded head underneath so threads do not get damaged

Ash bore disease is killing all the ash trees in northeast Ohio.

No ash trees left around here either.

Most of the elms are dead as well (the next generation after the original dutch elm disease wiped most of them out years ago).

It is sad to drive around and see all the dead trees everywhere.

Fortunately most of the trees on my property are maples and are healthy.

We have only a small percentage of ash on our acreage.

Roughly 70% beech. A mix of maple oak and some evergreens after that.

Ash trees here won't be around long either unfortunately.

Elm and chestnut has been gone for decades...

Well not today but over the last week I replaced the pto assembly, put in a new starter and a new solenoid, not bad for someone who is not mechanically inclined.

Starts right up and everything seems to work just fine for now.
