Question -- is it night and day with those turf tires and wheel weights as far as stopping slippage? We shall see. I just put them on today. I only use this 417 for mowing and I do experience some tire spinning on my steep areas. This extra weight should help.
BrianKoch 307 #20102 Posted October 19, 2023 (edited) Gentlemen, Today I repaired the leaky plastic gas tank on the ‘69 Charger 12 by drilling out the old outlet, installing a bushing and shutoff valve, cutting the dash pan hole wider, and adding a fuel filter. I just acquired this tractor and am dedicating it to being my “mower” and will dedicate the ‘68 Charger 12 I have for “tractor stuff”. This ‘69 needs work, but thankfully mowing season is coming to an end so I can get this horse sorted out by spring time. davem1111 2,030 #20107 Posted October 23, 2023 The seat has been wobbly on my GT-1848 for quite a while, and the bad habit of putting a hand and lots of weight on the seat back when getting on and off had made it worse, so I decided it was time to see what was going on. The metal was cracked on both sides where the cross brace that the seat hinges attach to (sorry, no picture, but I'm guessing most of you have seen this kind of damage before). I thought about welding some new metal on there, but realized that I had a cross brace that went further up to reach the next set of holes, so I went with that. While I had the seat and fender off I replace the mangled hydro fan, cleaned and lubed the hydro linkage and fins, and dropped a new seat on it. I also had found this old toolbox which I painted red, made a bracket for it and mounted it on the fender. I think this will come in handy. [ yeah, I know the deck looks bad - this is the worst of 3 48" SD's I have, been using it out in the fields. It will probably get some TLC this winter.... oh, and a WH logo will eventually replace or cover up the B&S logo the PO put on the Honda engine. ] No pictures on this yet but I did some work on my 417-H steering column, and started fabbing a motion pedal for it. 7

Very few man made items these days still in use after 50+ years. Paint fades... But the deck still works! 4 1

Pullstart 62,838 #20110 Posted October 24, 2023 @davem1111 it would be a great idea to cut those wheel weight studs right down tight. Shin killers right there, ask me how an know! 2
Pullstart 62,838 #20111 Posted October 24, 2023 1/2 day for my niece Leighty Bug ofay. We took a ride on Putt Putt, then did a little recreation picture. No cukes available, I guess a Reese’s peanut butter cup will do… 5 1

Shin killers right there, ask me how an know! Yeah, I just thought about that this weekend, but so far I haven't lost any blood because of those.... just dumb luck I guess. I think I'll not only cut them off but I'll get some rubber caps to put on them. I know what those kind of encounters feel like - reminds me of running behind the truck, forgetting that the hitch was sticking out. My shins look like a mountain range from the damage I've done to them. 1

I'd go a step farther and look at the transaxle to F plate bolts too. If they're loose that will cause the hood stand to crack. I also added a1/8" x 2" across because I was raising the fender pan for 25" tires. The 2" channel is 1 3/4" long to match the 1 3/4" I raised the fender bracket. WHGuy413 2,683 #20124 Posted October 26, 2023 (edited) After @WheelHorse_Kid pulled a few weeks ago his older brother Aiden has shown a little more interest in tractors. For those who don’t know him Aiden was my right hand man in the garage for years til he hit those preteen/teen years. His world revolves around baseball and plays 3 outta 4 seasons and practices in the off season. So it’s nice to see him back out in the garage and hopefully gets re bit with the horse bug. This late gray 60’s hydro that they got in a package deal that they purchased last winter with all their own money was his goal. Well today he took it for its first spin under its own power. Not the correct motor but still looks to be the correct horsepower. He’s currently out there in the driveway working with Alex and they are taking the plow off. The previous owner did not have a plow bracket so he installed the rod into the hitch on the back and then cut a hole in the fender pan for the turning arm. It’s missing a belt guard but I think I have one kicking around. He says he wants to keep it gray. Someone did a great job of free handing the decal area and even on the plow itself.
