Got the manifold made up tonight. Had to make a huge adapter to fit the muffler, but this manifold is for this engine. The diameter should be fine. I had to weld a recurve drop in the adapter to get the muffler in the right place, but it will pull the whole thing a little closer to the hood. Ugly, but it will work. Also made a brace to support the whole thing that uses the PTO brake bracket. I always remove them anyway. Edited May 17, 2023 by kpinnc

kpinnc 12,065 #19031 Posted May 17, 2023 (edited) Well, my manifold is ugly, but it did the trick. First pic is "before" and second is after. Tucked in nicely, but not so close as to burn the hood paint. Added a diagonal brace to support the weight as well on the brake tab. Bill D 1,922 #19032 Posted May 17, 2023 Nice. At any point were you temped to install a stack or straight pipes? 1
D_Mac 8,619 #19033 Posted May 17, 2023 @kpinncnice work. Did you make the heat shields as well. I would like to try that some day.

This muffler combined with this engine sounds like a "soft spoken" Harley. That's why I modded so much to make it work. I got nothing against stacks, just not my preference. I'd probably hit it on something... 1 hour ago, D_Mac said: Did you make the heat shields as well. I would like to try that some day. Yep. Go back to the previous page in this thread. It's just perforated stainless from Fleabay, but it works. 1
Ed Kennell 38,195 #19036 Posted May 17, 2023 (edited) After three wet mowings, I took the 42SD off for cleaning. Put the 42RD on. Did a little test run. Finished cleaning the 42SD and gave it the Geasy Pete oil bath. Bake it in the sun for a few days than store till next spring. Pullstart 62,905 #19041 Posted May 18, 2023 Right up until I noticed a wet dash… I blew a hydraulic line and learned from @PeacemakerJack. Stop where you are! I’ll see if I can get the tiller lifted out of the ground, then flat tow it back to the barn for repairs. 2
Pullstart 62,905 #19042 Posted May 18, 2023 Safe and sound. Rylee came to my rescue with Putt Putt and we towed Colt back to the barn. No, the seat isn’t bolted down 3 3 1
D_Mac 8,619 #19043 Posted May 19, 2023 Spent some time scrapping the dirt and grim off the 310 today. We looked the engine over and no sign of damage. Bore stamp on the piston. Head gasket and carb ordered. Excited to get it started. 2
8ntruck 7,012 #19045 Posted May 19, 2023 It was raining today, so I was just putzing around my shop. Finished a couple of minor projects that were cluttering up the bench, and did some minor cleaning. While walking the dog, I had cooked up a plan to rehab the seat on Clyde the C-195. Since the rain had dampened plans for brushing another coat of stain on the dock, I went into the tractor shed and took the seat off of Clyde. Got it into the shop and removed the crusty seat cover and padding. I was hoping to be able to wire brush the seat pan and patch a couple of rust holes then make a new seat pad. Unfortunately, the front 3" of the seat pan were basically rust just waiting to crumble into oblivion. Yes, it could be fixed, but time wise, it will be better to get a replacement seat and be done with it. Think I'll go with one of the steel pan seats from TSC.
