WHGuy413 2,693 #17553 Posted November 3, 2022 (edited) @19richie66 thank you. He definitely has been hooked by the horse bug now that he has several of his own. He’s a hard worker. @ebinmaine thank you for those kind words. I’ve definitely tried to raise all my kids to be good people. At some point we will have to find time to get together I’m sure Alex would like to meet you. Someone’s already hinting that he wants me to bring him to the big show in 2023. Not too many kids have a father that take the time to share his hobby with them, even fewer fathers have a son that is interested in spending all their time with dad. Lucky son, lucky dad. 3
Monstrosity 1,128 #17555 Posted November 3, 2022 Finally finished the SEMA build in time for delivery, pumpkin haunted house season is over .. and finally started putting the snowthrower back together... now the fuel pump is over powering the float in the carb. Cleaned the original carb put that back on and still doing the same thing.... bypassed fuel pump and now starving for fuel.. What am I missing??? 2 1

So good to see another generation interested in these old tractors. Way to go! Your boy seems to have the same interest as mine. If he’s not on a machine doing leaves, grass or just hauling something… it’s not a good day. 😂 Not only is he learning it’s just great quality time together. Can’t replace it.

Without the next generation our hobby dies. It’s great seeing everyone be supportive of him and other kids that are on this site. A lot of people just see kids as a pain and getting in the way. Mines learning from all of you who have been supportive it’s great. He is the one and only reason I got back into these tractors after the last 4 years of not doing a thing with them. 8ntruck 7,015 #17561 Posted November 4, 2022 Spent the majority of the afternoon today on Morgan, the 14-8, in third gear at 3/4 throttle towing the lawn sweeper around. Good day for the activity. Good breeze, dry leaves - a combination that worked almost too well. Anyhow, it looks like about 90% of the leaves in the 40 or so trees on our property are down and disposed of. That lawn sweeper is getting really loose. Think I'll buy a new one before next fall so I don't get caught with a broken, unrepairable sweeper when I also have a leaf covered lawn. 3
WHGuy413 2,693 #17562 Posted November 4, 2022 @8ntruck I remember when I was a kid my grandfather made me push his lawn sweeper around his yard so I wouldn’t destroy it. Yes it was a tow behind version but apparently he didn’t think I could back up. I’ve been thinking about finding one to use on my front lawn. The oak trees across the street tend to drop their leaves randomly and it would be easier to pick them up with that then digging the whole leaf vac out. I try to only do that once or twice
8ntruck 7,015 #17563 Posted November 4, 2022 with a lawn sweeper being effectively a short trailer, they are difficult to back up. I know what you mean about oak trees randomly dropping leaves. The majority of my trees are oaks - a mix of red oak and white oak. Yup, the different types drop leaves at different times. Some of the trees hang onto some leaves all winter.

WHGuy413 2,693 #17565 Posted November 5, 2022 I finally dismounted the old dry rotted tires off my 416H. My plan was to put tubes in them but @TonyToro had these brand new ones that I bought a few weeks ago. Spent a few minutes at the shop at work, while waiting for my daughter to get out of her job, utilizing the tire machine while Alex tinkered on his new project that we picked up tonight. I will let him share about that one. 5
davem1111 2,030 #17566 Posted November 5, 2022 Needed to make room for the minivan in the other section of the garage (other side of that door in the background), which is where I had been storing most of the Hosses. So I re-arranged some things and moved them all in here. Done working on the minivan now, so I'm going to do some more cleanup and organizing, since right now I have to climb over the deck on the 312-A just to get to the section of the garage behind the tractors. BTW, I have a muffler on the way, to make a stack on the GT-1848 in the foreground. I have an old twin muffler that's shot but the headers are good, and look like they will fit. So I'm planning to make a 2-into-1 header then mount the new muffler vertically. Then I can repair the hood. Hoping to do at least a "decent" bodywork/repaint on it, and get new decals. Not a full restore but it will look a heck of a lot better. 5
8ntruck 7,015 #17567 Posted November 5, 2022 @davem1111 what kind of muffler do you have on the way? The muffler on my C-195 is shot, and I am casting about for a replacement. Your 2 into 1 header and vertically mounted muffler is what I had in mind.

rick 233 #17569 Posted November 5, 2022 I replaced the ignition switch and the hood hinge wear items on the 1997 314-8. I got the hood hinge goodies from Lowell's site. I have another hood hinge kit for the 1991 416-H and I need to do the switch on that one as well. No pics, we all know what they look like...

I'll measure tomorrow, when there is enough light in the stable to see. We've had a little rain recently, so it was not a good day to process the leaves that appeared on the lawn, negating my last round of leaf clean up. Instead, between rain showers, I got one of Clyde, the C-195, front wheels wirebrushed, primed and painted with Navajo White. I figure I'll mount the tires this fall, then shoot another coat of Navajo White next spring using the playing card trick. While I was wire brushing, the high winds that were forecast started. I was rather pleased to watch a large heard of leaves blow across my back yard, across the neighbor's lot and disappear into the woods. I think it should be fairly easy to adapt to the header since I'm going to make it myself. Hopefully I'm not wrong, but it wasn't expensive. And hopefully it's stable enough without using the brace and I'll just cut that part off. If not, I'll fabricate a brace of some kind, I guess. Or try something else.
