I went with using up what I had on hand because 1) I’m cheap and 2) I’m trying to keep costs on the E 141 below the stratosphere and 3) I’m decluttering and 4) did I mention I’m cheap? 

 

It will spend the rest of its life inside or in sunshine whilst pulling the train, so I’m not overly concerned about future rust… If I do another project and get into using liner or Por I will use it up on this application…

 

 

 

Based on my experience of cleaning and repainting battery trays and hold downs...you will have the opportunity in the not to distant future to do it again

Picked up my 754 hood today from my welder Russ.  He has done several of these new fronts for me on the old round hoods that have rust outs or breaks in front bottom of the hoods.  Will Patton makes the plate and a half inch band to weld on these old hoods and I have purchased several from him.  They are very good and mimic the originals.  I also have my welder add more plate on the interior bottom of the old hoods to strength the overall hood as it sits in the front of the tractor frame.  
 

Only need to change the head and head gasket on my 754 as the next project!

Worked on 52xi deck that showed up last week. 

Needs some TLC I am starting out small and working my way around it.

Anti scalp wheels first.

Had to install new shafts as well as the wheels. Used 5/8 bolts for shafting material.

I thought so. On a diff subject, Do you have the correct wire from points to coil? Mine is original and is getting "soft" I'd love to replace with the correct ends/length.

I've seen both. We've had what we believe to be original untouched horses with black coils and unpainted carbs. 

Might be another case of Wheelhorse grabbing whatever was available from Kohler at the time of need.

Correct length and end  spark plug cables I have. Just need to know how long you want it. Points to coil is just 14 ga. wire with ring ends. You snip part of the ring end at the points to get it under the screw or use a spade end.

Ring end at the coil. To make the hook just snip a small portion of another ring terminal with side cutters.

Yep. 

 

On the coil end I've seen rings or forks. 

On the points end, either a fork or a hook.

 

I prefer to use a ring on both ends just because it's easier during assembly. 

 

To make a decent original looking wire you can take one of those terminals with the blue covering as pictured above. Remove the blue and replace it with a short piece of appropriate colored heat shrink.

Often the color that comes on them is tied to the gauge of wire to be used. I frequently cover with shrink tube to strengthen, keep out dirt, and have the color I prefer.

I pulled the winter clothes of the 310-8 and tossed the deck on. Actually ended up mulching some leaves for my new neighbors the same day. They’ve never seen a wheel horse before and now I have them looking for one. Day well spent😅
