That being said, there are dozens of YouTube videos showing methods of removing the ethanol, but I have no idea how well it works.

 

I learned the hard way. I had a 518-H that I used ethanol fuel in, back when it first made it's way to local gas stations and I didn't notice. When I parked the tractor for winter, I didn't run the carb dry. Not only did it destroy the carb with corrosion, some of the fuel made it's way into both cylinders- probably due to the growth of all the carb corrosion, and pitted both bores beyond what reboring could fix. Engine ran great through summer, and was destroyed over the winter.

 

Now I know it will be said that I should have ran the carb dry and shut off the fuel, but most of us have been guilty of not doing that on occasion. Worst case scenario years back was stale fuel come spring time. Might as well fill the carb with pure water if using ethanol fuel.

 

I've read that 93 octane does not have ethanol in it, but I have seen no proof yet. I can still buy ethanol free locally, and that's all that goes in anything I have with a carburetor.

@kpinnc. I have been using non-ethanol in my equipment for years… and for what it’s worth, I put Stabil in my equipment gas too…

Do you think I need to cut off fuel at tank valve and let my carbs run dry every time.

 

They almost never sit more than 2 months or so…

Ethanol free gas is ONLY actually ethanol FREE if labeled as such. 

There may be high octane fuel that doesn't have ethanol but if it isn't labeled I'd not rely on it permanently.

We run ONLY non ethanol fuel. 

We only drain carbs in machines that leak.  

 

No Stabil. 

No problems.

No you should be fine. Ethanol free gas will last a very long time.

There are some places that sell premium gas that contains no ethanol, but the vast majority of stations have premium with ethanol.  Often gasoline labeled as premium only means that it is higher octane and ADDING ethanol is one way of increasing octane.

In my area the only way to get E FREE gas is high octane. There is availability to 90 or 91 octane at a couple stations or 108 (jet fuel) at an airport.

Same here, but they still sell premium with loads of ethanol right alongside of the ethanol free.

I get 93 ethanol free at two stations and can get 87 ethanol free at Quick Pic. They don't make enough ethanol for all the gas that's sold so it may be there or not, at least that what I have read,  Your paying extra for it either way, so I pay more not to get it. Ethanol will rust anything that's steel that it comes in contact with, gas tanks, sending units, that's why they changed to plastic gas tanks.

Talking about avoiding ethanol fuel. Did some work on my diesel project. 

Raised the steering wheel a good 4.5" 

Steering is super tight, this machine can't have many hours on it.(even though it looks all rusted up)

Got some parts etch primed today for the work horse. It was all stripped to bare metal because of the rust. Next will be several coats of primer then wet sand it smooth. Hopefully the black and grey will be done by spring and I can start wiring in the onan.

Ok now I know what you're working on. I see them bent all the time. I tear them out and use a good filter in the line.

If you blow air back into the lines it fixes it. Just didn't know if it would cause fuel problems because it looks pretty clean.

If you are able to make that screen change shape with air pressure, I'm going to take a guess & say that it is plugged. Air or fluid should pass through that screen as easily as air through a window screen. Pull the valve out & either clean the screen with some brake cleaner or rip it off & let the in line filter do its job.

@Achto Since I got it running right it just doesn't seem like it's getting any fuel to the fuel filter because it's almost completely dry when it's running would you just keep the screen or would you just rip it out.
