Odds are if you're blocking off air by using the choke you're in need of fuel.

Likely the carb needs a cleanup/rebuild.

@kpinnc pretty scary ,daring to make up  something that you did not have ? and to add insult to injury , looks like it did a  factory made piece, job !  can relate with regular experimentation  on just about anything horse related . what if ? , try it, tweak it ,verify it, make it  work like it should , get ready for a " you can't do that  ",  I  for one think its a great trial , good job , pete

Well, it's been quite a week. I developed a raspy cough around Tuesday or Wednesday, and of course the home Covid test came back +, so my wife's staying at her mother's. Fortunately after a couple of days the symptoms have all but disappeared.

Tracking said my new PTO disc was due Saturday, and storm due Friday. It actually made it onto the local delivery truck Friday, but didn't get delivered. The carrier didn't have access to the delivery area because of........snow! We have the drives plowed at both my house and the MIL's so the driveways got cleared. Yesterday I got out in the morning and decided to clear walkways and so forth with my old walk behind snowblower. I noticed a lot of dry grass around the spark plug and decided to check. Sure enough there was a mouse nest inside the tins, so I proceeded to take them off and pull out the nest. Temp was barely into double digits, but cleared it out and got done what I needed.

Clutch part got delivered in the afternoon, so I proceeded over to the MIL's place and started to install. Friction material was completely gone from the old one. I didn't finish because I ran out of light and sensation in my fingers. The phone even quit so I have limited pictures. It didn't like the cold either. Temperature's jumped all the way up to 23 so I'm heading back to finish.

I sure miss that balmy weather in southern NH.

@TJ Salyers  check out  EVIL ENERGY ,FOR FUEL LINE CHECK VALVES , since installing them on my three horses , cold start and operation has practically zero choke needed, get the 5/16 " size , most important is to mount it VERTICALLY , from fuel pump to carb , that will hold the fuel there , without any back flow . your description of cold fuel starvation , is what I  also had, that check valve , MOUNTED VERTICALLY , will help you out ,  like 2 for 10$ , worth it , pete

So is it the welch plug in line with the cam, or is it the crankshaft seal leaking all that oil?

I did grease the bearings. Found a good Youtube video for the replacement before I did it.

@Chestnut  FYI   Blower belt should be on the outside groove of your PTO pulley. Inner groove for tiller and mower.

Thanks for the tip. I was wondering about that. I pulled the belt off the other day and I thought it was on the inner groove but I wasn't sure when I went back. Alignment looked a little off when I looked. I can easily correct when I go back.

See that rust on the pin?  Put a drop of oil on the pins and the hoop ends.

See that wear on the end of the bell?  I have seen that a number of times, it comes from failed pins or the clip on the shaft.

While you have the oil can out, put a drop of oil on the governor shaft on the opposite side of the engine.

Ed, that bracket is for the belt guard that is missing.

Thanks for the info. I'll get the oil out. I was also wondering what the bracket is. There's another bracket that bolts through that one and runs forward and has a bearing on it. Not sure what that one's for either. The tractor came with a tiller and 60 inch mower deck which I've never installed. I had to loosen the bracket you see and remove the other one to get the clutch off. I thought for a minute I'd just leave them off, but decided to reinstall just so they wouldn't disappear before spring when I open the lean-to where the mower and tiller are stored.

Just a comment - it's a pretty substantial bracket for a belt guard, but I guess that's the way they made them.

Simply download the owners manual for the snowblower.

The other bracket has a round piece on it that is not a bearing, it controls side to side movement.

The bracket guard which you have also has a belt guard # 117552-01 that's missing that attaches with 2 hairpins.

Both correct.

I'll look at the anti-sway bracket tomorrow. It's installed as pictured, but it didn't seem to be located in a position that would stop any kind of side to side movement.

I'll also have to look in the bucket of spares to see whether the belt guard is in there. Unfortunately it's in a spot that won't be easily accessed until the snow melts.

Pfffsstt... heard tell Pullstart has a vise mounted on his and calls it a mobile workbench...

I know I’m two weeks late, but I might just do that some day just to prove you right.  Plus, I don’t have an easy access bench with a vice on it!  :ROTF:
