johnnymag3 2,520 #13801 Posted November 30, 2021 (edited) there are parts and pieces all over the engine....and tin covers....and maybe some thrown to the Wheel Horse Gods.... Gregor 4,846 #13802 Posted November 30, 2021 Didn't you have a broken one? Or was that someone else. I am so confused. With my meter set on 200 it reads 00.1, and 00.3 This is what has always befuddled me about ohm meters. Maybe someone can explain it?
Gregor 4,846 #13803 Posted November 30, 2021 (edited) Tried another meter. That didn't answer any questions. Tried yet another meter. My Fluke. The most expensive and supposedly the best. That didn't answer any questions either. But at least they all agree. All 3 meters had a reading of 0.1 through the leads themselves. If you're holding the tips together with your fingers, it may be reading you.

kpinnc 12,083 #13807 Posted November 30, 2021 Strange, but it could literally be the resistance of the leads. Strange because I always understood meters to be calibrated to zero through existing leads... Guessing I'm right back to your original point.
Gregor 4,846 #13808 Posted November 30, 2021 If they were REALLY expensive meters, they may have a setting of 20 ohms, or even 2 ohms. Then the difference would show up. Example Meter 1--------0.087 Meter 2--------1.432 Meter 3--------0.
cleat 6,042 #13809 Posted November 30, 2021 The old analog meters had a knob to set zero with leads touching. Digital ones do not have this.

Thanks, I just used this inexpensive welder with fluxcorewire. My Makita battery powered grinder. And the metal is from this table I had to shorten the horizontal legs: free and the same gauge steel. 2

kpinnc 12,083 #13823 Posted November 30, 2021 I bet we threw away dozens of the Simpsons at the phone company years back. Those were required equipment in any good tech's arsenal back in the day. If I'd known then what I know now... 1
