What have you done to your Wheel Horse today?

Recommended Posts

I rebuilt a mule drive with new pulleys and a fresh Toro belt and while it was off, hooked my winch up to take care of a dead tree. Also buzzed up some saplings while I was at it. The winch was awesome, great for controlling how the tree fell and then I used it to drag the trunk out.

As for belts, I am DONE buying anything but genuine Toro belts. It's not worth trying to save a couple bucks buying aftermarket. Aramid/Kevlar belts are also junk- give me a stock Toro rubber belt and I guarantee you it will outlast any other belt.

The Toro belts are now being made in Mexico I just put a new one on a 48" deck. They don't look as good as the old Wheel Horse belts made by Gates. I'm running a couple of TLC belts one on a mule drive and drive belt on the 520 .

If they don't hold up I'm buying Gates Green and they are not cheap.

Look at us on page 520! Which reminds me… I should see if the float needle for my 520 is close yet. I got the new rocker arms for the 607 on after last week’s incident. Seems okay now, gonna start it this afternoon. The new ones are a little bigger but they still fit, and they are thicker so they should be stronger. I’m glad I did that little modification to the cylinder head. I took about 0.030” off and the compression is much better, I could do more but I thought that was too much. Anyway, it should be good and strong for pulling and plowing. Now I just gotta get the $$$ to finish the tranny. About $200 for all new bearings and seals.

Not a 520 but I was up this morning putting the plow blade on the 875. So easy. After that I had to rearrange the garage to make things fit. Going to need to do it again once we get some snow. I also need to go get the belt that goes from the deck to the engine on the 500 Special.

Again.. not a 520 but I installed a new battery in the Lawn Ranger and the electric start works perfectly. As long as it was out and running, I mowed the lawn with it. Front and back. Just need to shorten the cables on it. Choke and throttle are both way to long. My garage is filled. Hate to sell any but might need too.

Build a shelf with the ability to support a half a dozen more with a ramp… then we’ll talk.:angry-nono::twocents-twocents::lol:

Before I put the battery in the Lawn Ranger I used it to try starting the crusty 856 I leave outside against the fence. I cleaned the points, used jumper cables and some starting fluid. It cranked over good but no spark. I am guessing the coil is shot. Here is a picture of it when I picked it up with the 500 Special. I had to put new wheels on it because it sat buried in the dirt so long the rims rotted away. You already have the plow that was on it @squonk. Finish the project !

@D_Mac I gave the ratty plough :) blade to a friend of mine. Rehabbed the frame and put on new control wire. It's now on the 857. Project finished!

Holee Crap that one is too nice to use! Parade gear there, and only on rare occasion! I've had pics of it downloaded in my personal albums since you finished it!

Added a pic of my 520-H worker since this is page 520.

Tuneup

What the heck?! I could mow the backyard with the lovely refreshed deck (the 516H did the side yard in 14 freakin' minutes with that beast) but made the error of going to Home Crappo yesterday, after taking out a bank loan, to buy 3 sheets of finished plywood. So it's honey-dos for me this weekend and Wheel Horse porn will have to remain in my dreams a little longer. At least Sweetie will get her popcorn popper and hot dog maker/microwave cabinet in the movie room so there are fringe benefits all around. Popcorn and The Martian tonight for us all.
