The only thing on the front is a bumper. My guess with the 3/8" plate under the Vanguard and the heavy 3500 rated front hubs it still weights less then with a Kohler.

Nifty rig. Clearly capable of lifting the front of the tractor, too, or even breaking its frame-to-transaxle connection at the extreme. In reasonable use, though, when the load is "on the hook" adding a bit of weight on the bumper would give it a bit of extra "hold down", too!

The frame is braced too.

Our latest decent sized project that the horsies get to play on is moving 14 yards of dark gravel from the front of the house to the backyard.

Filling in an area so we can access it better and even drive across it.

The darker gravel to the left is what we moved today.

We still need to move another 20 or 25 garden trailer loads down there. Mostly off to the left, some over between the trees on the right.

This wood frog was keeping an eye on us. Likely as a site supervisor.

Tuneup

So, the 25 year old stopped by. We sharpened the 42SD blades and cleaned the deck. Spindles will get the snot grease treatment this winter. Removed the 48SD from the 125 and put the 42 there where it's very happy - adjusted nicely. Blades were down in front so curious as to how it will mow now that it's proper. Moved the 48SD to the 516. Not yet adjusted for transport - the 516 needs a look-see on the lever. Took it into the yard and mowed at full speed. That machine actually rips. The 42RD sits alone and the 77 120 with fresh battery is now my cart puller since its mule needs a rebuild. Good day! Even the Ford got a wash.

Been doing some welding practice today.
Started with the 2 pieces bolted to the transmission. Made those back in April I think.

Welded the other 2 pieces to those.

Since I'm down to the last week or two where it's still warm enough to paint without needing heat (which I don't have), I figured I'd better get going on painting my snow blades. I'm only doing the front faces, to help the snow slide. I kind of like the patina on the frames. I just bought the second one last month from a fellow member here who lives only 10 minutes away. I wasn't looking for another snow blade, but I figured I'd see how a 54" one does, compared to my 48".

I need to replace the wear bar on the new one - it was worn down so far that two of the bolts were being ground down. After I cut the bolts and took the bar off, I saw that this wasn't the first time it had happened, only the previous time, it had worn down to all of the bolt holes. Someone added a small strip of new metal. I don't know why they didn't just leave it as it was and drill new holes.

Is that all you've done since you since the three shovels of stone a few years back?  We know who does all the work around there,

Has anyone used Por 15 on the underside of decks and spindles? I know it's a little pricey, but it went on great and I didn't use very much of the quart can for 2 coats. Just wondering on the durability from slinging grass.

@Tuneup  when you rebuild that mule drive good opportunity to  pop off those 6203 , side rubber grease shields , carefully use a small pocket screwdriver , wipe out existing " grease " and  replace with lucas extra heavy duty grease, polyurea rated , anti sling and a drop point of 560 deg , this lube will not fail . with that pto heat . grease at walmart for $ 5 . use it on all my decks and drives , no bearing whining and no failures . picked up some new pto pulleys , first thing i did , was to change over to this grease. lots of hours on the lube and no problems , just an idea while you are there , pete

Removed the 42SD from the 417A and gave it the PETE treatment.

Out in the sun all this week to soak in.

Put the clean 48SD on  the 417A.  The 417 A with the front and rear ball hitch will be used for moving trailers but no mowing till 2022 spring.

I’ve used por15 on the undersides of my Jeeps. It handles that abuse just fine. A deck should last for a while.

I replaced the raggedy old seat on the Dixie horse 310-8. It’s called a “black talon high back” on amazon. It’s plenty comfortable and has good back support. Direct bolt on too. No modifications. For the price you can’t beat that. It’s made of some kind of synthetic material, so it should be plenty durable.
