PeacemakerJack 10,738 #153 Posted October 18, 2018 Seeing @dclarke‘s post with his fine snow moving rig made me think of this thread. I suppose it is time to resurrect it. We have already received some snow in places of the mid west and it won’t be long before we have to start dealing with it on a regular basis. I haven’t set up any of my snow movers yet but will work on momma’s “Mighty-D” soon. Pics posted soon... I'm no expert, by any means, but they look way too big for a half ton. My dad (full on hoarder stuff) used to buy used 3/4 tons and carry lots of crap under a shell. We are a one Horse family, so she wont get the blade, weights and chains till closer to Thanksgiving unless we get an early storm. Row Cropper 60 #165 Posted February 10, 2019 I use a 520-H with a 54" blade. I use the blade until we get a snow of 10" or more, then switch to a blower. The tractor is equipped with bar tread tires filled with 6 gallons of washer fluid in each one. I can add more weight quickly if the need arises, by dropping 70 # cast iron wheel weights onto a custom built bracket which slides into my 2" receiver hitch. To keep the front end from being pushed sideways when the blade is angled, I have added just over 100# of weight to the front Tach a magic. The weight is made of 4" tube filled with concrete. I seldom use chains, but if there is ice under the snow, they are a must. I fabricated my own frame for this plow to get it out in front of the tractor far enough that the blade never hits a front tire on the forward swept front axle. This frame eliminates the factory extension, which I never cared for due to all the moving parts and wear points. It is a beast and very heavy, so I fabricated a jack shaft for the mid-mount Tach a Magic that moves the lift point forward 14" to reduce the load leverage. Last year we only had a couple of snows that were deep enough to even bring out the snow removal equipment until the big one on tax day (over 24” in one day!). This year however, we’ve been getting more of the slop. I have used the one/two punch of the 523D for the deeper stuff and my Cub Diesel with the blade for the shallower wetter stuff. I got home from church last night and had to clear the 4-5” that we had received throughout the day. According to the news we will be in a winter storm warning starting at Midnight tonight through 6am Wednesday and we could get anywhere from 8”to 15”. PeacemakerJack 10,738 #171 Posted February 11, 2019 Generally I run #2 diesel year round with winter additives for the cold weather operation. Power Service is typically what i’ll Add... Seems to be a good product. The Cub has a Kubota D640B three cylinder in it. Takes a LOT of glow plug time to get started but once it is running definitely seems to be a stout machine. I’ve owned it nearly a decade now. I’m thankful to finally have a heated space to store it in this winter. Makes using either diesel tractor so nice. After using the diesel at 10pm last night, I wiped some of the snow off and put it in the shop. Hey, I just tore a cylinder in half this morning for one of my back wings... it had about 5 hrs use on it! Lessons learned.... yep everything breaks sooner or later! Also, I picked up 6 grade-2 bolts to put one on each cylinder as a shear pin. 8 bucks for 6 bolts is a lot cheaper than new cylinders! 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
