c-series don 8,688 #1276 Posted October 14, 2023 (edited) We just sold this truck on a sealed bid sale. It started life with my fire department in brand new in1978. I remember one of the first fires it went to at my dad’s office! It was originally our light and salvage truck with a large enclosed utility body on it. Then the body was replaced with this flat bed and it became part of our dive team pulling an enclosed trailer. I’m really sad to see it go but I was out voted in the say. I was the last one to drive it today before the new owner comes to pick it up. I certainly hope the new owner whom I don’t know gives it the care it deserves. 13,000 original miles, sale price just short of $19,000.00 Edited October 14, 2023 by c-series don 4 6
c-series don 8,688 #1277 Posted October 14, 2023 (edited) Okay since I’m on this fire truck kick I figured I’d add this, our 2000, 2500 series Chevy. Still in service and has 15,000 miles. Looks like this would fit in perfectly @Pullstart’s collection! Edited October 15, 2023 by c-series don 4 7

I had a classic K5 Blazer, 4” lift, 33” tires, cool vintage paint job, and before I knew my brother gave it away. I was awaiting the title and his response was “you weren’t going to do anything with it” The other one, was an ‘81 long box regular cab K25. I plowed some nasty snow with that one. There was a storm back in ‘06 or ‘07 that dropped and drifted for days. We had a call from my cousin to come plow him out so he could get his HVAC shop (2wd) van to work. We plowed a section of public road about 1/4 mile with a drift half way up our windows good enough to get through, but wicked enough that the county truck got stuck behind me and turned away. It was rusty. The doors didn’t latch, the box sides were mostly gone, and I loved it. I sold it for $600 and I bet I’ll never find a running driving 3/4 ton square body for that money again.
c-series don 8,688 #1282 Posted October 15, 2023 I had a 78, bought in 88. Plowed with it too! I think I only had it for a few years and finally sold it because it got around a solid 8-10 miles per gallon! 6
ebinmaine 67,424 #1283 Posted October 15, 2023 A square body Chevy is what cemented my interest in straight 6 engines. I had a 1981 C20 with a 292, TH400 and 4:56 GM 12 bolt rear axle. I swapped to an aluminum Offenhauser 4 bbl intake with a 450 CFM mechanical secondary Holley carb. Chevelle exhaust manifold and front pipe (bigger than the truck pipe). Also reset the timing. Adjusted the transmission downshift to kick in just after the secondaries opened. Top speed was about 60 or so without revving to the moon but it would get there pretty quickly for an HD truck like that! And it had 1 ton rear springs so it would carry. A LOT. 6
19richie66 17,500 #1284 Posted October 15, 2023 Well I finally got it home last night. Needs a good bath. All in due time. All original 1990 Silverado. Needs some love but cancer free. Just surface rust on the hood and roof. 4 1

Tonytoro416 1,034 #1286 Posted October 15, 2023 Have had this truck for 16-17 years already. Bought it from 2nd owner he had done a complete tune up and couldn’t get it to run very good. 1,000 bucks and brought it home. The following week discovered the exhaust had a small section smashed almost completely shut. So dual exhaust it was and has ran great ever since. I was 16 so it was getting dual exhaust regardless lol so a win win 4 1

My Dad took one of these for a test drive since we were a family of eight and it would seat us all. Tried to go up a big hill near the dealer with just him and us three boys--barely made it in 1st gear. We turned right around and returned it! Turns out the running gear was mostly from a Ford Falcon! We wound up getting the first of several International Travelalls with a v8 (a Chevy Suburban predecessor). No problem on hills. Thanks for the memories! 2
8ntruck 6,998 #1290 Posted October 20, 2023 They might have been branded as Falcons in the first year or two - kind of like the Covair vans.

ebinmaine 67,424 #1295 Posted October 27, 2023 With more and more companies putting focus on older trucks and rebuilding them as they go, scenes like this are occurring a little more often. Even the newest truck on the far right. The white Peterbilt. I believe that's just old enough that it does not have a DEF system. The brown Peterbilt 359 in the middle. Definitely a favorite body style of mine.

PeacemakerJack 10,738 #1297 Posted February 22 Thanks for bringing this thread up on my email Eric. We have been in Texas for the last three weeks on ministry meetings and there are SO MANY trucks in Texas. Because of the climate, many of them last for decades and we keep seeing cool examples like these… I loved the patina on this old Ford—just needs a new set of tires, a tune up, and drive it! spied this one across the road while we were out walking! Took the family to the birthplace of Dr. Pepper in Waco, and took a tour of the museum. Check out the old Chebby delivery truck! Visited my buddy Dave’s house earlier this week here in Garland and got a first hand look at his AWESOME 1969 Dodge short box resto mod. 632 CID BBC power rated at about 900hp! Hand built frame, custom 4L80 tranny, 9” Ford rear with 4.11 gearing and two 18.5” tires! Zach was totally into it and now wants to acquire uncle Ken’s ‘69 C20 and start rebuilding it🤔 who here can’t appreciate a square body? Pretty common down here! If I lived down in this climate, I wouldn’t own a vehicle newer than the 1980’s (although I may have a newer power plant/drivetrain)…

Thegearhead0324 1,255 #1299 Posted February 23 I sold my T/A in December and picked up this ol girl from Arkansas. 79 F100, 3 on the tree. My dad owned two when I was young and I owned 2 as well when in my 20s. My Chevy towed it and did very well from New York to Arkansas and back.
87 416-8 horse 420 #1300 Posted March 4 I picked up this sweet old ferd not too long ago. It’s has a 300 6 4spd manual with only 53k miles on it! It spent most of its life in AZ and NV. These pictures are after I buffed it. 3
