Here’s some vintage...  I absolutely love the sound of a straight six pumpin’ air.  In all my spare time, there’s a whole race car here.  If we get it together, I get to drive.  I better get that bathroom finished one of these days...

I liked some of the pictures until I saw the M-880. Now I have an 1952 M-37 (built by Dodge) and she is great...But those  880s were an absolute nightmare in the motor pool.  Damp out?? No start just the sickening whinning of the starter motors...till the batteries died.  Cold out No start.  the M-35a2s would start in Colorado Springs at 13  below zero as did my M151A1s.  if you could get the darn 880s started the engine would work OK till you splashed through  a puddle then the ballast resister would die and so would the truck.  Absolutely hated them  and have never even considered anything Chrysler since.

Then you would probably like a Datsun 280 or Toyota Supra screaming their I6 songs on a track...then there's the Trailblazer/Envoy 4.2 twin cam I6 from '02-'09 had one of each '05&'06 now the step-son has a small lift '02 Envoy, high revving big torque engines...

Oh yeah you bet! I've been around the angry Supra engines. Couple buddies of mine were way into those back in the late 80s.

That single cylinder head, staggered cylinder design, just fascinated the stuffing out of me.

When the GM straight engines came out in the early 2000s, I was working for GM dealerships. I got to read quite a bit of interesting literature about them.

A while back I had a 292 in a Chevy truck that was quite rambunctious. I don't know that I would want another carbureted engine as a daily driver but .... maybe...

Yeah I'm right there with you.

My experience with that particular vehicle has been that when I find somebody complaining about that engine, the truck it's in is a piece of poop.

It's an unfortunate replacement mindset society that we live in nowadays.

We had M880s when I first joined the Army, then they got rid of them and bought Chevy's.

I've never been a image.png.39263450f3acb9b188670a0be83ff4b0.png :bow-blue: fan but these trucks were next to terrible.  But part of the reason is the way the government ordered them.  Building a 1 1/4 ton truck that is likely to have a pretty heavy trailer behind it, or in some cases a heavy body, with a small V8 (the 318 gas engine), doomed this truck from the start, it was way under powered!

When we got the Chevy equivalent in the mid 80s, (the M1008 series) they had 6.2L diesel engines, so it was much more prepared to carry the loads intended for that truck size. I will say that the Chevy's had so much low end power, they easily spun when on dirt or slippery surface, so we had to use tour wheel drive a lot.

Plus at about the same time the M151 Jeeps went away.  With the change to the Chevy's and Humvee's, that replaced the Jeeps (both had diesels), there was no need to carry a separate load of gasoline, all the rest of the vehicles were diesel.

I don't know why the Dodge trucks were ordered this way :confusion-confused:?  Was the government just being cheap, or were they hoping for low power to keep the speed down and have fewer accidents/safety?

Heck, the Dodge truck name carried so much shame I guess they had to rid of it, and now they're called Ram's :(

I'm sure glad that Chevy's are still Chevy's :)

Based on the hood trim, this race car is an early 40’s Chevy Special Deluxe.  It could have looked like this hot rod, but most the bodies sourced for this class are cars that rotted in a field.  The cowl to the roof line are supposed to be factory pieces, the doors, fenders, trunk and hood are allowed to be custom.  Leaf springs have to support the car but the solid axles are allowed to be controlled by links.  Engines can be built inline sixes or stock crate V8’s.

For my “Blue Oval” buddies...

I saw this classic Ford 3/4 ton just down the street from the project that I’m working on.

I first glance I thought it was full patina with clear over it. However, as I got closer I could see that it had been “doctored” up to look like this.  It still is a sharp looking truck.  I don’t know my old Ford trucks real well.  What year does this one look to be?

Here is my 1989 square body suburban that me and my oldest son Travis have been working on. It has 66,000 original miles on the truck with a new heartbeat installed a couple weeks ago.I have been driving it daily since then.  The engine is a 2002 6.0 LS engine with 35,000 miles. I still have to clean up a little of the wiring once I get a chance to hook up my cruise control - it will be at the big show this year hooked to my show trailer!!!

What a beauty Lowell! Awesome engine upgrade too.  I’ll bet that was a noticeable increase in power...

Sweet ride Lowell !! :handgestures-thumbupright: How's the 6.0 on fuel in the Burb? I have a couple of friends that have trucks with that engine. They can pass any thing but a gas station.

On my first check I got 13 miles per gallon that’s starting and stopping a lot (no long drives) and me listening to my exhaust LOL so I’m pretty happy with that - keep in mind it has 342 gears and a Turbo 400 transmission I kept my pigtail on the engine wiring harness for the transmission so I can put a 4L80e in it if I want to. The guys that are running that set up are getting mid to high teens for mileage (empty)

I believe that's a '65 grille. Nice looking old Ford!

On a different note, I love that Suburban! 13mpg is pretty good with the Turbo 400. My son has a Denali XL with the 6.0 and AWD, and I think he's lucky to get 12-13 on the highway.

My ‘01 2500HD with the 6.0 and 4l80e is lucky to hit double digits empty, only highway with the cruise at 70.  13 mpg with the TH400 is awesome!

Keep in mind everyone thinks the burb is a 4x4 it is not it is a 2wd (I put a 3” body lift in it) so I don’t have t case and front end chewing up any hp. I will never drive it in the winter anyway because it is completely  rust free and I want to keep it that way

I looked for one of those for quite some time, to bob it and put a military trailer box on for a bed.  I figured it would have to be the perfect 55 mph and lower driving experience!
