Dan693 510 #1 Posted November 19, 2017 Anyone have an idea how to set the bead on a tubeless ATV tire? The tires are new and are way away from the both rim beads. I saw some vids that used starting fluid and I tried but just a big woof and a fire. Any ideas?
SylvanLakeWH 26,598 #2 Posted November 19, 2017 I went with mounting at Discount Tire. Watching my kid try to set tubeless tires on his mountain bike build was all the incentive I needed... My 0.02...
KC9KAS 4,742 #3 Posted November 19, 2017 I often times use a ratchet strap around the center of the tire to squeeze it so the bead is closer to the rim.

That's because the ether now SUCKS compared to the old stuff. The strap does help as KC9KAS wrote. Also try getting the bottom (stem side top) bead seated by hand as much as possible so you can pull up on the tire to get the top bead to touch around the rim. Less area for air to escape while trying to fill it. Dish soap with a little water helps Doesn't hurt if the tire is warmed up and more pliable than it is when cold I have used a cut piece of air hose with a hose clamp holding it directly on the stem. Fold the air hose until the compressor tank fills and let go when you ready. Using an air chuck is too slow of an air flow most of the time. Lots of cuss words! Brand new tires are the toughest to get on.
slammer302 2,156 #5 Posted November 19, 2017 When I worked at a tire shop we would put a tube in the tires and air it up to stretch the tire back out. We also had a bead blaster that would shoot a large shot of air into the tire at once.
953 nut 56,769 #6 Posted November 20, 2017 Most tire stores have one of these. Safe and quick inflation.
hondagod64 81 #7 Posted November 20, 2017 I use bead sealer on both sides of the tire and a my own bead blaster , works evertime or take to your local tire shop and have them do it. I bought my own blaster due to tires that i bought came strapped so tight that the center looked just liked yours...they have come down in price over the years...check e-bay
JC 1965 1,532 #8 Posted November 20, 2017 I put tubes in mine cause they can be a bear if you go tubeless.
BOB ELLISON 2,981 #9 Posted November 20, 2017 I put new tires on my 314 and they were deformed and looked flattened out. I did get 1 on with starting fluid . But I used a blow gun with the valve stim removed. When i ignited it the tire and rim pooped up off the floor and I keep adding air with the blow gun. But the other side I couldn't get so I added a tube to it. Unless you take it to a tire shop some will never get it on. I didn't want to pay $10.00 for one tire mounted.

I was going to suggest this same trick...be careful when releasing the strap though...several of my straps have chunks of my knuckles still in them from releasing them
Cvans 1,009 #11 Posted November 21, 2017 I have read where people inflate balloons inside the tire so the sidewalls are pushed out to the rims. They get left in there but won't harm anything. Your going to want some large balloons.

At least that's what I use. Think I'm going to go out and have some fun with my tire right now but I'll be back in less than 2 minutes. 1
