WVHillbilly520H 10,374 #1 Posted November 12, 2017 (edited) @shallowwatersailor, John had this saw listed in the classifieds and we worked out a deal, and since he was in the neighborhood he brought it along with him yesterday and visited for bit before he had to get back to his being here, so a big thanks to John for delivery and fine quality saw, I have an older Dolmar PS 540 and to date 1 new spark plug and bar and maybe 3 chains since acquiring it in 2007 used, and has never failed to start on the 3rd tug even sitting 6 months +/- , Back to John's 5105 he had kept it stored "dry" since last year or so, I got a can of TruFuel pre-mix filled it up took it a bit to get to the carb without a primer bulb, but after playing a bit over an hour it starts on the first tug every time, sawed a wild cherry stump off flush that was behind the house this saw is plenty for the average firewood cutter, Jeff. DennisThornton 4,769 #5 Posted November 13, 2017 The store I manage sold Jonsered, Husqvarna and now Stihl. I've always heard that Dolmar was a great saw. I gather Makita bought them.

Yep, you can them orange or blue, Makita bought Sachs-Dolmar in 2007 but kept them separate nameplates until this year.
ebinmaine 69,026 #7 Posted November 14, 2017 I have a 1987 Dolmar 116si. Absolutely love the power of that Beast for getting through a log. Haven't used it for a year or so because the chain brake cover is melted internally. .. (My fault ) Sometime or other I'll get around to fixing it. Can't believe the strength whenever I use it.
WVHillbilly520H 10,374 #8 Posted November 18, 2017 Gave the new Dolmar a bigger work out today on a a downed chestnut oak and a few pole sized trees at my property in WV, 3 tugs for cold start up, 1 tug the rest of the day, and throws chips a good 10 feet or more, Jeff.
WVHillbilly520H 10,374 #9 Posted December 22, 2017 @shallowwatersailor, John here's another picture of "your" saw, been back home for the last couple days trying to get caught up with the firewood for my folks, the "wood wagon" is 4' wide by 8' long with 18" sides I'm guessing we get about 1/2+ cord of wood on it each round, anyways it's still going strong starts easy real fine saw thanks again, Jeff.

WVHillbilly520H 10,374 #11 Posted December 26, 2018 (edited) @shallowwatersailor, Had the Dolmars (5105 with 20" bar and 540 with an 18" ) back out had a pretty big yellow locust (almost as tall as this big wild cherry tree) on the property line next to my red tractor shed that started worrying me after the ice storm last month so this morning it took a tumble away from my shed also started on the ice storm clean up as well. WVHillbilly520H 10,374 #12 Posted December 27, 2018 (edited) @ebinmaine, I don't think you're Patriot Horse would have tugged this locust whole, as it was still mostly green and hit the soft rain /snow soaked ground with a terribly loud thud, when I go to tug out the wild cherry tomorrow I'll try to take a few pics while I'm hitched up to with the eMax, Jeff. The dealer I bought the eMax from is an ECHO dealer as well, they are light and have a good warranty, haven't actually ran one but most likely one will be a replacement for the Poulan Wild Thing you see above. I bought a cs490. 18 inch bar. It's light weight. Well balanced. Powerful for the CC that it is. Yes, I'd recommend it to a friend.
