Drydockboys9569 0 #1 Posted October 27, 2017 70's GT 14..... Bolts for mounting interior wheel weights. Thread is a NPT -18.... I'm not certain as to how these weights mount. My thought, is to get a 4-inch bolt / washer / nut assembly. Mount bolt & washer on weight exterior / Hex head out on wheel exterior.... Any thoughts would be appreciated. gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,032 #3 Posted October 27, 2017 Is this what you have? The weight is mounted first with the bolts replacing the original wheel studs. Then wheel nuts are used to mount the wheels. Garry 1
953 nut 55,075 #4 Posted October 27, 2017 The rear wheel weights on the GT-14 are attached to the inside of the hub with 9/16-18 bolts that run through the weights and hub and the rim is then attached with lug nuts. The bolts have thread the entire length. Mine were missing several bolts when I bought them and I bought some all thread rod and lug nuts that did the trick. 1
Aldon 4,826 #5 Posted October 27, 2017 I used threaded bolts from the reverse side and mounted the wheel weights. In essence I am able to mount the tractor tire as I would on a car or truck. It is a chore regardless of how you mount them. Then I located lug nuts that would fit. It is easier for me to handle mounting the tire this way. 3
Sarge 3,463 #6 Posted October 27, 2017 Tap bolts are probably what was originally used - https://www.fastenal.com/products/details/0168156 I use these on all my Horses to install lug nuts - much easier to have studs in from the back of the hub to mount loaded tires and wheel weights . squonk 41,023 #8 Posted October 27, 2017 For added ease to mount loaded or weighted wheels get one of these: Roll the wheel/tire onto the dolly, jack up a side roll tire into position, line up the studs and roll it into the studs.
elcamino/wheelhorse 9,296 #9 Posted October 27, 2017 I like @squonk (skonk ) suggestion , just don't buy the cheap units from HF , bad story about my brothers 53 Ford and his garage doors. 1
Sarge 3,463 #10 Posted October 28, 2017 I really need to get a set of those - maybe I'll start hunting CL or something for some decent ones . I about crapped the first time I fluid filled the rear tires and bolted the weights on it - 145lbs just about drove my spine out completely - was not expecting that much weight and the next year I had to have a major hernia repaired . I've been using long pry bars to set them on the studs lately - those dollies would be a lot easier . Sarge 1
