grinchsr 626 #1 Posted October 19, 2017 I own three 48 inch decks and they are all the newer style with the round bar on the bottom edge. Two of them have 5/8 spindles and one has 3/4. Did WH use different suppliers?
cleat 5,809 #2 Posted October 20, 2017 I think the 3/4" spindles are the ones with a key way on the pulley. Spindle housings are the same, just different spindles, bearings, bearing spacers, and of course pulleys.
Lee1977 6,642 #3 Posted October 21, 2017 They used the 3/4" spindles in the 80's before the went to the metric spindles. I'm not sure what years they made the changes, but I've had all three types on my deck over the last 40 years. After wearing out a couple sets of stamped steel pulleys I sleeved and faced off the old Double "D" cast iron pulleys to fit the metric spindles. I also got tired of replacing those plastic rollers, Made some out of Dog Wood with brass bushings they have been on since the 90s. I did replace the brass bushings and roller shafts a couple of years ago.
