Fordiesel69 258 #1 Posted October 16, 2017 I have some good magnums 12-14HP with nice tightly fit throttle shafts around 500-700 hrs.. I also have some 1500+hr magnums with alarmingly loose shaft which will need attention. What is the secret from keep these from getting so worn? If I lubricate regularly, I assume the engine just sucks it in.
C-85 669 #2 Posted October 16, 2017 I believe this is mainly caused by a having a dirty or plugged air filter. When the air filter is dirty or plugged, air is sucked though anyplace it can, and it's often dirty air with abrasives. Once it starts doing this through the throttle shaft hole it starts wearing it. Some manufactures started using a felt seal on the top of the shaft to prevent this from happening. Oiling it may help, but I think it's a restriction at the air intake that causes most of this wear. That's my C-
