520hC-120 136 #1 Posted October 9, 2017 My 1968 Raider 12 won’t shift into low gearing it seems to be stuck in high. I don’t know what the problem is it has done it sience we bought it. I believe I am doing it right, I press the clutch pedal in and push the high/low lever to the low position and it just bends then go back to the high position. Thanks in advance, Will
WHX?? 49,177 #2 Posted October 9, 2017 More than likely the detent ball is hung up in the high range detent. Cases must be split to fix. Actually easy once you get the hubs and every thing else off. I just happen to have one apart if you needs pics.

oliver2-44 9,874 #6 Posted October 10, 2017 Since your probable going to have to split it, here's a last ditch attempt Drain gear oil and fill brim full of diesel. Park outside in the sun for a few days to warn it up Work hi/lo lever with the hopes that the diesel soaked thru some gunk and frees it up. If this doesn't work, drain and at least you've started to clean the heavy old gear oil out of the tranny, 2
WHX?? 49,177 #7 Posted October 10, 2017 Not a terrible idea Ollie but I'm thinkin the detent ball is mashed inside OR something happened to the shift fork .... got some good pics coming..... stand by....
stevasaurus 22,872 #8 Posted October 10, 2017 Sorry to beat Jim to this. he does have some great pictures also and he should still post them here. I did a how to thread on the transmission that you have...take a look at the 2nd video in the thread...it shows how the high/low thingy works and goes together. Also, check out Jim's thread here. He had the gear break apart that does the hi/low.
WHX?? 49,177 #9 Posted October 10, 2017 Thanks Steve just going to do that. Take a look at Steve's videos Will, give to an idea of what we are babbling about with detents & shift forks and all that. The bad news is yes the transmission will have to get split to fix. Let us know if you need further help on tractor disassembly or anything. 3 hours ago, stevasaurus said: Sorry to beat Jim to this. he does have some great pictures Not nowhere good as your vids Steve.
